PROset wireless bluetooth software installer error please help! intel 6230

Hi guys. I picked up a intel 6230 wireless card for my laptop. Got the main wireless drivers installed and the card works good for that, however I am having a issue installing the bluetooth software for it. About 75% on the install bar and I get a pop up message saying "There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor."

laptop is a Hp dv6 6135dx by the way. running custom bios to remove whitelist, I don't think it is a problem, just need to get the installer to work. Any ideas? windows 7 64 bit.

I'm having the same issue. Additionally, since I installed this card, today, I have a message popping up every 30sec or so stating that a USB device has malfunctioned. If I remove the card, the problem goes away. I'm wondering if installing this driver will possibly fix this issue (plus I'd like to have working Bluetooth) so any assistance in getting this installer to complete would be greatly appreciated by myself and, I'm sure, hypertek, as well.

Yeah I also had that unknown usb device message popping up.

I still have this problem, this is the message I am getting http://i40.tinypic.com/20rns7m.jpg http://i40.tinypic.com/20rns7m.jpg

and i tried the older installer and this is the message I am getting. http://i39.tinypic.com/ea0e28.jpg http://i39.tinypic.com/ea0e28.jpg

I went ahead and installed the old wifi card for now and no problems, but would love to use this 6230. I think it is just a software install issue.

I got the older driver to install, no problems. Still with the USB error.

Apparently this was a reported issue with newer drivers on a specific Dell laptop that ships with this card and Intel worked with Dell to fix the issue. Dell has a specific set of drivers, both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, that are supposed to fix it.

Neither of us are using Dell laptops, but I'm going to try that pair of drivers and see what happens. I'll report back to you, including links, if it works.

Well, it looks like it's installed, I see it in device manager, still getting the USB error, not able to use bluetooth. If I manage to get this thing working, I'll let you know what I did; don't waste your time with the Dell drivers just yet.

No luck so far. It would be nice is someone from Intel could comment on this in the next few days.

I'm at a loss at this point. If you click the little tool icon in the top right of the USB error popup, you get a dialog where you can hide that notification. Obviously, this doesn't get your bluetoothe working or actually fix the USB issue, but at least you can use the wireless without being constantly harrassed by the error.

I would really like for someone at Intel to respond and let us know if this is a known issue and, if so, is it a defect, hardware issue, or software issue (e.g. should we exchange our cards because there's something wrong with them, sell or return them because they're incompatible with our laptops, or try different drivers or apply some patch or hotfix).

I was really excited when I found this card. Currently, I'm quote disappointed. Could someone at Intel please comment? Even if it's just to tell us you aren't aware of any issue, though we'd prefer to hear otherwise.

I'm going to try to install a fresh copy of Win 7 on a spare drive I have and see if maybe it's a driver issue. If I can confirm this, I'll try troublshooting Windows driver cache.

I'll let you know what I find.

Fresh install of Win7 went off without a hitch. USB error popped up on first boot. Installed latest drivers, both bluetooth and wireless; still had USB error, no bluetooth. Restored, tried previous version of drivers; same result.

This is 100% certainly a hardware issue. Whether it's a defect in our cards, or an incompatibility with our laptops is to be determined; either through Intel coming forward with an answer, or through exchanging these cards and trying different ones.

I'd really like to hear from Intel before my return period expires in 3 weeks.

i wonder if there is any way to extract the package and figure out where the files go to, to manually install them..?

I don't think that would make much difference. It installed fine on a fresh install of Win7, but I still had the USB error and no bluetooth. I'm going to look up the full specs of your laptop and compare them to mine to see if there is a common thread here.

I've read around the 'net about this same issue (re: USB error, with varying mention of driver install issues) but there's almost never mention of the exact model of laptop, so I don't have much to go on for this.

I looked up your laptop's specs and it's safe to rule out anything specific to a single chipset or component, aside from the card itself. Your system is AMD-based and mine is all Intel, chipset, CPU, GPU, everything, so it's not possible to conclude that the card is incompatible with a specific piece of hardware in either of our systems.

While this doesn't mean that is *IS* compatible, this lack of correllation, coupled with continued issues even on a fresh install of Windows, ruling out a software issue, strongly points to a defect in the cards we received. I was thinking it was a whitelisting issue (and with no mod for my BIOS, this would be bad for me) but, as you're running a modded BIOS and having the same issue, I think we can rule that out, as well.

I don't think there's much point in continuing this discussion until someone from Intel (hopefully) comments on Monday. For now, I think the best course of action is to excange our current cards as defective, since everything up to now points to that being the most likely scenario. If the replacement cards exhibit the same issue, at that point, we should pressure Intel further for an answer.

For reference, my laptop os a Toshiba C655-S5195, based on the Intel HM55 Express chipset, Core i3 M380 @ 2.53Ghz, Intel integrated graphics, and the most recent BIOS update (I was 2 versions behind when I installed this card, I iterated through the versions hoping that one or the other would solve this issue -- no dice). That should be all the relevant info for anyone else who might wish to look into this further.

hypertek, can I ask you there you purchased your card? also, if you can supply the full model # listed under the text "Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6230" on the card itself (should start with "62230", mine is "62230ANHMW"), the TA # (probably starts with "G") also from the card itself, as well as the FCC ID and IC numbers, listed immediately below the model # , I would like to compare our cards at that level.

I have contacted my seller (ANTOnline) for a replacement and will compare both cards when I receive that replacement (which hopefully will work). Just in case a replacement doesn't solve the issue, we should record as much information as possible about each card, current and repalcement, we use during testing, in case it is an issue with the card and not jsut a defect in our specific cards. The more cards (and laptops) we can replicate the issue across, in that case, the better we can help Intel to solve it, either with a new revision of the hardware or a possible software patch.

Just to chime in, been experiencing what appear to be the same issue for some time.

There is a post from Jun 12, 2011 about this issue however there was never really a resolution outside of the user simply reattempting the install again and again, with the consensus being

"If you delete the driver, the driver folder, reboot, and try again you will get the results needed. It might take a few tries but alwasy seems to finally work." - Rogo

However this has not been the case for me

I've also attempted to install the drivers first followed by the hardware per one user's suggestion.

I've tried two cards in a few different albeit similar configurations:

The systems are:

Dell Precision M2300 (with reinstallation of operating system) Windows 7 32bit

Dell Precision M4400 - Windows 7 64bit

Dell Precision M6400 - Windows 7 64bit

Dell Precision M6500 - Windows 7 64bit

Should anyone have more information on how to corrected this problem or why it happens it would be greatly appreciated

Ok, so here's what I came up with:

ANTOnline didn't want to exchange the card and the price had gone up, so I complained to Amazon and they refunded me, and let me keep it. At least I'm not out anything, right? GO AMAZON!

Ordered another card from a chinese seller on eBay, which I just got tonight. Installed that card, drivers install, no wireless "Device cannot start (10)". Boot into safemode, uninstall card there, reboot, reinstall card, same game. Still with the USB error, too.

Say f--kit and pop the other card back in. Comes up installed but disabled, so I enable it, BAM got a USB error. BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUT... This time, the Bluetooth device shows up. Bluetooth drivers never fully installed before, because it couldn't find the device, so I'm wondering if reinstalling the BT drivers will fix that. I'll do that and report.

If this works out, I'd be willing to ship ya my code 10 "cannot start" card if you want to see if popping swapping it in and out works for oyu like it did for me. There's no reason it should, but then there's no reason it should have worked for me, either, LOL

I have the same problem. It's a card I bought on eBay from China and installed in my ASUS laptop. I can install the WiFi drivers at Version 14.3.0.0 and they work great. WiFi OK and MiFi is OK too but no Blue tooth. I can't install the software. I get the same result as the original poster. I read this page http://www.intel.com/support/wireless/wlan/sb/CS-032541.htm http://www.intel.com/support/wireless/wlan/sb/CS-032541.htm but was no help especially since I have drivers at a later level.

edit

someone (from Intel?) thinks this problem may be solved. I got news for them, it isn't.

Intel does not support the installation of wireless adapters in OEM systems. More info is available at http://www.intel.com/support/wireless/wlan/sb/CS-011644.htm http://www.intel.com/support/wireless/wlan/sb/CS-011644.htm.

Also there are many reasons that an adapter might fail completely or partially when installed in an OEM system. Take a look at http://www.intel.com/support/wireless/wlan/sb/CS-031167.htm http://www.intel.com/support/wireless/wlan/sb/CS-031167.htm.

As to the USB error you are receiving - this is specifically due to how the Bluetooth radio connects to your laptop. Your adapter is not installed correctly or is not supported by your OEM system. You need to contact your OEM for assistance with this issue.

Thanks,

IleneK
