Intel HD Graphics - Bug in drivers - False digital audio signal in DVI - no sound by analog cable.

I have connected my HTPC with Intel HD Graphics (H55 chipset) to DVI output by DVI - HDMI cable to TV Sony Bravia, and for sound jack - jack 3,5 cable from analog soundcard to TV jack input.

But TV ignore analog audio input because it believes it is receiving an audio signal via the DVI - HDMI cable, and I don't have sound in my TV by analog jack-jack cable.

When I changing inputs and change for HTPC for a second I hear sound before picture is displayed, when picture is display immediately sound is off.

Using latest intel HD Graphics drivers.

I readed is a driver bug and Intel should fix it like http://www.nvidia.com/ nvidia done.

Here's more

Hello,

In this case you should check on the Sound properties in the control panel of the operating system that you are using and check the 3.5mm jacks as the default playback device for your computer. Also you can try installing the HD audio driver from the Device Manager.

Other than this, we have not validated the DVI port to be sending audio signals, therefore the issue might be related to the HDMI-DVI adapter that you are using and how the monitor detects it. In addition, your TV should have an option to specify what is the default audio signal that the TV should be picking too.

If the issue persists check with your computer manufacturer for any other option to connect that TV to your system and use the 3.5mm rear jacks.

Hello, that was the first thing I did to check what is default audio device, of course it was Realtek HD Speakers analog output/green jack.

The sound I hear on one second in TV before picture is display, but it is immediately disable by TV when picture is display from DVI-HDMI.

Also for test I connected external analog computer speakers to this jack output and they playing fine.

As you can see the problem is in DVI-HDMI signal, TV think it getting there also audio and automatic disable sound in analog input jack.

My TV is Sony Bravia KDL-46Z4500, and there is no possible to selcet audio input for HDMI # 2 digital or analog jack, but most TV don't have that option.

(HDMI # 2 is a port in my TV which have integrated analog jack input)

I think its bug/issue in drivers, because if TV will be not detect some audio signals on DVI-HDMI then should not disable analog input, don't you think

You think is depending to DVI-HDMI adapter hmm, using standard DVI-HDMI adapter as I good remember its by ASUS (yellow), so I will buy DVI-HDMI cable without any adapters and will see, but I dont think it will help.

Please see this, "Controlling the presence of audio in the HDMI cable" on this site

If the graphics card detects the presence of a HDMI or DVI cable, it will offer the possibility to enable or disable Audio on the wire

In Intel drivers should be same option, to disable audio on HDMI, this is also for DVI there and its work in nvidia.

Also see this identical problems as my, and this depend from drivers

I don't think DVI supports audio. It never did. You can't use a cable from DVI to HDMI if you want audio via HDMI. The audio signal isn't there. You have to use a converter (about $100) that takes the DVI signal and an audio signal then outputs to HDMI with the audio signal. The alternative is to use R/L component input, SPDIF or 3.5mm connection for the audio to your TV. They do make a splitter cable that changes a 3.5mm jack to R/L component RCA plugs. Or use the HDMI output port on your computer to the HDMI input port on your TV.

There are some graphics cards that output a digital signal with audio to a DVI socket but this is not true DVI. It's just HDMI to a DVI socket. For this, the change-over cable should work.

CarWiz - wrong, of course in Intel H55 chipset on DVI output there is no sound, I know that good, it's not ATI Radeon HD for example, but drivers send false digital signal there, and my TV think there is sound, and automaticly disable analog jack-jack connection.

Do you read this ?

If there in DVI was only video without some false audio singal my TV will be not disable analog jack connection

You have to use a converter (about $100) that takes the DVI signal and an audio signal then outputs to HDMI with the audio signal.

If are not audio on DVI output so how this can convert output video/audio to HDMI.

The alternative is to use R/L component input, SPDIF or 3.5mm connection for the audio to your TV. They do make a splitter cable that changes a 3.5mm jack to R/L component RCA plugs. Or use the HDMI output port on your computer to the HDMI input port on your TV.

Input ? where, I don't have any RCA inputs for sound in my TV, only input is analog 3,5 jack.

SPDIF and RCA this are outputs in my TV not inputs.

To HDMI I have already connected my amplifier, so I want also connect DVI directly to my TV, so I use analog cable 3,5mm - 3,5mm jack for sound

The solution is simple

To resolve this problem, video card manufacturers have released driver updates that eliminate the false digital audio signal. If you are experiencing this problem, please contact the manufacturer of your video card.

But looks like nobody from Intel visit here

I doubt that there is any audio signal on the DVI port--Driver or not. The digital encoding is not there. The fact that you plug a HDMI connector into the TV may turn off other audio input since the TV expects to get the audio from the HDMI signal.

Even my cheap $160 23" Haier TV has Component and AV Input. This is in addition to HDMI, PC (VGA) and ASTM. You can't blame Intel because your TV is not compatible with the current electronic standards. Just as you can't ask Ford or Chevrolet to redesign their cars because you don' t like the location or brightness of the headlights. They conform to the standard. Well, you could ask but don't expect a solution in your favor.

The "converter" takes the DVI signal and the audio you supply (by PC audio output) and merges them into a new signal. The new signal is then HDMI.

Edit: Why not use the RCA output for your amp and use the HDMI input from your PC?

No, because as you can see in back panel of TV, port HDMI IN # 2 also got analog input near of it and support analog audio if HDMI receive only video.

How do you want connect DVI to Component, digital to analog signal ?

Are you read this link below on Samsung site ? It's not my only TV, most TV will work same and have identical problem, it's not fault in TV or compatible, its fault in Intel drivers. For example Nvidia had same problem but they fixed in newer drivers.

The "converter" takes the DVI signal and the audio you supply (by PC audio output) and merges them into a new signal. The new signal is then HDMI.

From DVI output signal from PC is only video, so form where I can take digital audio ?

Edit: Why not use the RCA output for your amp and use the HDMI input from your PC?

inversely, PC have HDMI output, AMP input, but who connect PC who can passtrough HD audio formats on HDMI and connect it by analog RCA to amplifier

Ok so this mean take DVI digital signal plus analog audio singal and convert everything to digital,

Could you give me direct link to this converter, if this it cost as you tell 100$ so much better its to buy HDMI splitter or seperate GPU for example ATI HD 6570 which output audio also with passthrough HD on DVI output, but thank you anyway for advices.

You still think is fault in my TV Sony see here /message/139091# 139091 http://communities.intel.com/message/139091# 139091 this time LG TV, or here http://communities.intel.com/message/90866# 90866 http://communities.intel.com/message/90866# 90866

I'm experiencing the same problem. I have an Insignia 42" plasma television. One of the HDMI inputs is labeled "HDMI/DVI", and next to it is a "DVI Audio In" 3.5 mm jack.

I have two HTPC computers. The one with an ATI onboard video card works fine when I connect it to the television using a DVI to HDMI adapter and connecting the audio port on the HTPC to the "DVI Audio In" jack using a 3.5 mm patch cable.

The other HTPC computer has Intel HD Graphics onboard (via an Intel DH61DL motherboard). When I connect this to the television the same way, the audio from "DVI Audio In" is ignored because the television thinks it is getting audio via the HDMI cable. If I connect via HDMI and plug a standard pair of Logitech computer speakers into the audio port on the HTPC (instead of connecting that same jack to the DVI Audio In jack on the television), I hear audio through the computer speakers. It is only the television that won't recognize it because it thinks it is getting audio via HDMI.

Please let me know if I can provide any additional details. I can also offer my system for any suggested tests.

Some graphics cards do supply an audio signal to the DVI port to use with an HDMI adapter but this is not the standard DVI configuration. DVI ports don't normally supply audio. HDMI does or is expected to carry auto. This could be why alternate audio input is suppressed when using HDMI input. When using HDMI, you need to set the device shown in the Sound Playback window that will be getting the signal as the default output.

MTK 5380 is my Haier TV. (Don't ask me why that is.) It's connected to my PC via the HDMI port. My normal display is connected to the DVI port. As you can see by the current settings, my speakers are the default output for sound. And, that's where the TV sound plays if I watch a TV program. If I want the sound to be output on the TV, I have to select the TV as the default output.

In addition, your TV should have an option to specify what is the default audio signal that the TV should be picking too. http://www.readenews.com/ social media news

This is a genuine and persisting problem. Most disappointing it has not been addressed by Intel.

H61 chipset (DH61CR, DH61DL- presumably others) also sending a false audio signal over DVI-HDMI connection (even though it is not supported). This then causes output sources capable of simultaneously accepting video over HDMI and sound over stereo/RCA to ignore the latter.

Line-out-RCA connection alone works correctly. When the video is registered (connected physically or in the second or two it takes for the display to appear) the sound cuts out because the TV switches to sound over HDMI.

This is a real issue (bug) that should be (should have long ago been) addressed.
