Intel management engine crashing my computer

Hi,

I have an asus z97A motherboard, and a i5-4460. Since I bought this a couple of month ago intel-management engine interface had

This device cannot start. (Code 10)

STATUS_DEVICE_POWER_FAILURE

Following advice on this forum, I did a clean OS install (windows 7) when that didn't work I upgraded to windows 10. When that didn't work, I tried to get back to the version 9.5 but it always tell me : your computer does not meet the requirement. After reading on the forum, people were saying it was probably a defect in processor, so I got a replacement one with the warranty (01823342). Changed the processor, updated my bios, updated everything with the Intel driver update utility and still have this problem.

It is rebouting my computer every day, sometime 2-4 time a day at random moment. What can I do to finally fix that problem?!

Uninstall the ME. You do not need it.

That doesn't work, everytime I do uninstall it, Windows re-install it. Same with disabling it.

Hello Niett:

If you already replaced the processor, in that case, the problem might related to a different component, because it is very unlikely to get 2 defective processors in a row.

Now, the problem could be related to the board.

Did you try a BIOS update?

On the following link you will be able to get the BIOS file to do it:

https://www.asus.com/uk/Motherboards/Z97A/HelpDesk_Download/ https://www.asus.com/uk/Motherboards/Z97A/HelpDesk_Download/

On that same link you will find all the drivers that the board needs, I do not see the management engine listed there, maybe this board does not need it, remember that the drivers belong to the board, so installing the Intel® management engine might not work with this board and the same scenario will happen with the Intel driver update utility.

Since the PC reboots by itself, did you test it just with one memory stick? That is just to rule out a possible problem with the memory RAM.

Another option will be to disable Windows® updates, so you can remove the management engine driver and Windows will not install it automatically:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3073930 https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3073930

Any questions, please let me know.

Hello Niett:

I just wanted to check if the information posted previously was useful for you, and the problem with the management engine got fixed or if it still persists?

Any questions, please let me know.

Hi, I have done a clean install of windows 10, updated bios and all drivers. The problem is still there. I will look into your answers this week end.

@Al Hill, I tried the KB from microsoft with hidden update and it didn't show up the MEI drivers to disable so it wasn't possible to hide it.

BiOS is Updated to its most recent version.

Hello Niett:

Perfect, no problem at all, try the steps above in order to try to fix the problem.

If the problem persists after that, then in that case the best thing to do will be to get in contact with ASUS directly, for further technical or warranty support, since the processor was replaced already.

ASUS's phone number: 1-877-339-2787

ASUS's support site: https://www.asus.com/us/support/ https://www.asus.com/us/support/

Any questions, please let me know.
