problems after updating driver

hi. pls excuse me i am very unfamiliar with drivers etc.

i use an old laptop Acer Aspire 5580 (bought in malaysia). I visited this page http://www.acer.com.my/ac/en/MY/content/drivers Download and downloaded the latest driver for my computer (Win XP 32 bit) - the file i downloaded was Wireless LAN_Intel_10.1.1.3_XPx86 [dot] zip

I then installed this. but each time i click on the new, green coloured Intel ProSet icon in the system tray, I get a warning:

Sorry but the above notice is all gibberish to me... (mental block perhaps!) Not knowing what to do... I visited the intel.com site and used the tool to scan my system for updated drivers [ http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/detect/wireless Intel® Driver Update Utility for wireless networking ]. I got the result: "Newer Intel® PROSet/Wireless WiFi Connection Utility Available:" I then clicked download and saved this file ' Wireless_15.1.1_x32.exe '

But whenever i try to run that file, i get an installation error saying i have to manually remove the earlier installation....

I tried uninistalling it with 'Add & Remove Programs' but the same installation error appeared.

I tried using device manager - i clicked on the Network Adapter - Intel Pro and then clicked the uninstall icon at the top and it disappeared.

But when I try to run the above installation it again says:

Can someone kindly help me. One thing i shd say ... thankfully my wireless connection IS working.. otherwise i wdn't be able to visit this forum and ask for someone's kind help.

Sighhhh perhaps i shd have just not updated anything!!!

Hello Dina, sorry to hear that you have trouble updating the drivers. From the screenshots we can see that the driver version you currently have is 10.1.1.3 which is several years old. I will post below the instructions to uninstall the drivers and software, and an extra option if you can still not delete it. But something else you might want to do is, if you were not experiencing any trouble with the old driver version, then you would not need to update it. You should only update the drivers if you are experiencing issues.

First, make sure you download and save to your desktop the drivers:

Note: Do not restart your computer until you followed all the steps bellow. This will clean all profiles from your system and network password will need to be re-entered.

1. Remove the Intel® PROSet software from Control Panel\Add Remove Programs if present, and select not to save any Profiles or user data.
2. Go to Start\settings\control panel\system\hardware tab\device manager-button\"Network Adapters"\Double-Click the adapter name\Drivers Tab and click on the "Uninstall Drivers" button.
3. Remove the Wireless folder found at C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR_PROFILE_NAME\Application Data\Intel.
4. Install the latest drivers. (Double-click on the icon of the driver first the ICS_Dx32.exe then the ICS_x32.exe)
5. Click on the Intel® PROSet wireless tools to connect to your wireless network.

If you still have trouble getting rid of it then you may use the Windows* clean up utility found here (it works for 32 and 64 bit Operating Systems):
