older version proset/wireless cannot be removed message during update

I'm experiencing the same issue as I noted in an earlier post, however it remained unsolved.

I have a dell latitude E5450 running on Windows 7 pro.

The update comes from the "dell command update" suite so this would imply in my view no restriction from the computer manufacturer regarding driver installation, as replied / asked in the prior issued topic ( ) .

The path 'C:\ProgramData\Package

Cache\{......LONG NUMBER.....}v17.15.0\data\driver.msi"

cannot be found.

Any suggestions?

Hello carmi,

We understand you're having issues updating to a newer driver for your Intel® Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260.

We also understand that you have already http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/network-and-i-o/wireless-networking/000005587.html manually removed the Intel® PROSet/Wireless Software. We can also suggest to remove the driver itself, using device manager.

- http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/network-and-i-o/wireless-networking/000005756.html Uninstalling an Intel® WiFi Adapter Driver.

But keep in mind that once this is done, you will lose your wireless connectivity, so please make sure to download and save the latest wireless drivers first.

For this, we always recommend using the latest drivers provided by your OEM (Dell*, in your case), as our version does not take into consideration any customizations and feature changes made while integrating your wireless adapter. However, you may also try using our latest published driver if those do not work for you.

Thanks for the reply.

The part of "already http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/network-and-i-o/wireless-networking/000005587.html manually removed the Intel® PROSet/Wireless Software" is not correct. I did not do that yet.

However I tried to but was unable to uninstall. Windows seems unable to uninstall using the following http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/network-and-i-o/wireless-networking/000005587.html Uninstall Intel® PROSet/Wireless Software procedure.

At step 2 is states: Error during removal. Possibly already uninstalled. Do you want to remove it from the list?

I tried: https://support.microsoft.com/nl-nl/help/17588/fix-problems-that-block-programs-from-being-installed-or-removed https://support.microsoft.com/nl-nl/help/17588/fix-problems-that-block-programs-from-being-installed-or-removed

Didn't work.

However I can see ProSet/Wireless software is installed (functioning properly...).

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

carmi,

This is not a normal behavior or a known issue. It sounds like you may be dealing with some sort of operating system or registry corruption that is not allowing the PROSet to be fully removed.

You may need to perform a clean installation of your operating system, or use a third party uninstaller application such as http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_uninstaller_free_download.html Revo Uninstaller Freeware* to completely remove the PROset and it's registry keys.

Before making any registry changes you may want to make sure to back up any important information, andhttps://support.microsoft.com/en-us/instantanswers/e6bbddb0-9db4-4d88-9063-42c52c79a96e/create-a-system-restore-point create a new system restore point.

Once the current version has been completely removed, there should be no problems installing the latest driver.
