Intel HD 520 black screen and flashing on Windows 7

I have a Windows 7 Enterprise Dell Latitude E7270 with up-to-date drivers (Intel 21.20.16.4627) and up-to-date BIOS from the vendor.

I am connected with a LG 27in 4k monitor via DisplayPort on the dock using Extended desktop and the laptop's display is the secondary display.

Occasionally the graphics gets very upset and flashes to black, sometimes worse than others, today the machine is unusable. I have found it becomes more stable when I use 30Hz instead of 60Hz.

I have seen suggestions about Disabling the sync in the power menu and that might have had some effect but not today. I have seen comments about this being seen on Windows 10 as well.

For reference here is a video of the behaviour:

bobdvb: Thank you very much for joining the Intel® NUC communities and for providing that video.

In this case what we recommend is to install the graphics drivers provided by the manufacturer, please look for the option for video:

If the problem persists after installing that driver, then we can try the following graphics driver from Intel, version 4678:

Any further questions, please let me know.

Regards,

Yes, the 20.21.16.4627 I have is from Dell.

I will try the Intel download that you have suggested.

The second link that you provided refuses to install because of the pre-existing Dell driver: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/graphics-drivers/000005469.html Error Message: Computer Manufacturer Graphics Driver Detected

bobdvb: In this case we can try to install the drivers manually:

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/graphics-drivers/000005474.html https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/graphics-drivers/000005474.html

If you get the same error message, then please un-install the driver from Dell, and try to install our driver again:

Any questions, please let me know.

I manually applied the drivers you suggested and it still is flashing to black.

bobdvb: Thank you for providing that information.

By any chance, do you have the option to test the laptop with an external monitor without using the dock? Even if you need to use a different video port, this is just to rule out a possible problem with the dock itself.

Any questions, please let me know.

I have the same problem using a Surface Pro 2017 IRIS 640 graphic and an external monitor benq320 4k 60Hz. The screens goes black from time to time. Using 30Hz makes it better. No solution right now.
