Vcore under volt question

Hey I have a quick question on lowering the vcore voltages. I've been told that the i7 7700k only needs/requires 1.20v, but on HWMONITOR my voltage readings run all the way up to 1.325v and thats just the basic startup web browsing, not even stressing the system.

I have it set to adaptive and 1.20v in the BIOS and it doesn't matter, blows right through that. I also tried to lower the Vcore to 1.19 and it got hung up is the startup. Is there an easy setting that I am missing? I have the click bios 5 and a Z270 PC MATE (MS-7A72) motherboard. Thanks for the help!

jamezz23: Thank you very much for joining the Intel® Processors communities.

In regard to your inquiry, on the link below, you will find the voltage range recommended for this processor, page 114:

Have you tried a BIOS update to the latest version, 7A72v15:

Remember we recommend to use the PC at stock configurations, altering clock frequency or voltage may damage or reduce the useful life of the processor and other system components, and may reduce system stability and performance.

Any further questions, please let me know.

Regards,

Alberto R

I'm not trying to over clock anything, it's just well documented that the motherboard sends unnecessary voltages to the chip, causing excess heat.

I'm looking for advice from someone who has done this, and not to point me to the owners manual

jamezz23: Thank you for providing that information.

From our side, that is the best we can recommend, to keep the voltage within the range that you saw on the datasheet.

So, in this case, I encourage all the peers viewing this forum that if they have any feedback or suggestions on this matter to post all the details on this thread.

Also, even if you are not doing overclocking, the link below is a forum for overclockers. Since they also change the voltage value on the processor, they might have further suggestions for you:
