AC 7260 can't find network. Windows says no network available

I just purchased an Intel AC 7260 (7260.hmwg) for a desktop system, a Shuttle XH61V. I installed the Intel drivers and software utility. When I try to connect to my home WIFI network, or any network, I get a Windows message saying no available networks. I know there are many networks in the area. The Intel wireless diagnostic software also says there are no available networks. The drivers appeared to install correctly and I see no conflicts with Device Manager.

I don't know if this is a deal breaker, but I don't have the adapter connected to any type of antenna. Should I buy an internal antenna, like the ones used for laptops ?

There are a few things to consider when installing a laptop's wireless adapter to a desktop.

 

  • First of all it is necessary to contact the system manufacture in order to find out if the products are compatible. Just like any other device, not all wireless adapters are physically and electrically compatible with all systems. Therefore the integration must be validated by the OEM.
  • The system BIOS could be designed to accept certain wireless adapter models only.
  • The installation of these adapters is subject to country-specific regulatory approvals which include the system, wireless adapter and antennas.
  • It is because of these reasons that we highly encourage to contact your system manufacturer in order to obtain a list of validated wireless adapter models that are compatible with your system and the proper means to accomplish this hardware integration.

You can make it as resolved. I've tried Ubuntu live dvd, and there is the same thing there. So it is not a problem of Windows or Drivers. It is a firmware or hardware problem. Since there is no info about how to upgrade firmware on this adapter. you need to replace it.

The most common cause for this scenario is that the antennas are disconnected.

Please note that in the desktop adapter the antennas are numbered (ANT1/ANT2), so they need to be connected to the corresponding plug.
