Hello,

Does anybody know if a computer with Intel HD Graphics 4600 will be able to run a 4k monitor at 60Hz? My computer has a Displayport and VGA port. It is a Dell 3020 Small Form Factor computer. I was looking to run this monitor:

https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-PB287Q-3840x2160-DisplayPort-Monitor/dp/B00KJGY3TO/ref=s9_simh_gw_g147_i1_r?_encoding=UTF8&fpl=fresh&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=&pf_rd_r=9EGE7QCBB0Z41QJ8QC7T&pf_rd_t=36701&pf_rd_p=a6aaf593-1ba4-4f4e-bdcc-0febe090b8ed&pf_rd_i=desktop https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-PB287Q-3840x2160-DisplayPort-Monitor/dp/B00KJGY3TO/ref=s9_simh_gw_g147_i1_r?_encoding=UTF8&f

I will be using this at work so I do not need to be running a high refresh rate.

Thanks!

Hi RedShot ,

According to Intel HD Graphics 4600 on this CPU : http://ark.intel.com/products/80806/Intel-Core-i7-4790-Processor-8M-Cache-up-to-4_00-GHz Intel® Core™ i7-4790 Processor (8M Cache, up to 4.00 GHz) Product Specifications 4K monitors at 60Hz should be supported by the igpu.

I advise you to check out in manual or with Dell support also, because this is not only Intel CPU side support. It depends of hardware on the mainboard also.

Have a nice day.

Hello Ronin:

Thank you very much to for the comments posted above.

To RedShot:

I was checking the specifications of the laptop, it says it supports Intel® 4th generation i5, i3, Pentium® Dual Core and Celeron® Dual Core.

http://i.dell.com/sites/doccontent/shared-content/data-sheets/en/Documents/optiplex-3020-micro-technical-spec-sheet.pdf http://i.dell.com/sites/doccontent/shared-content/data-sheets/en/Documents/optiplex-3020-micro-technical-spec-sheet.pdf

With that graphics controller, if you want to use 60Hz, then the option to do that will be with the eDP port at 3840x2160@60Hz, that will be UHD.

The Intel® HD Graphics 4600 supports a 4K resolution, which is the following: 4096x2304 when using the HDMI port but at 24Hz.

According to the monitor's specifications the max resolution it supports is 3840x2160, that will be UHD.

On the following link you will find useful information about the 4K configuration:

http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/graphics-drivers/000023296.html http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/graphics-drivers/000023296.html

On the data sheet you will be able to confirm the resolutions supported by a 4th generation processor with Intel® HD Graphics 4600 controller, page 36:

http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/processors/core/4th-gen-core-family-desktop-vol-1-datasheet.html http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/processors/core/4th-gen-core-family-desktop-vol-1-datasheet.html

As mentioned by Ronin it is always better to check with the manufacturer of the laptop to confirm that information, because besides the graphics controller it depends also on the hardware you will use:

Dell's phone number: 1 800-624-9897

Dell's support site: http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/04 http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/04

Any further questions, please let me know.

Regards

Alberto
