SR300 and Iris Recognition

Considering that the SR300 has both an IR camera and an IR Projector, is it possible to use the SR300 to take images of my iris to be used for recognition/authentication?

I think it would only require software as iris cameras use IR for what they do. Thank you for your attention and any answers!

Hello Phoenyx33,

Thank you for your interest in the Intel® RealSense™ Technology.

I have to inform you that, unfortunately, the RealSense Cameras are not suited for that kind of scanning.

For optimal use, one of the SR300 camera requirements is that the user must be at least 20 cm away from the camera, and at that distance, iris scan is not possible.

Also, the camera's IR depth sensing capabilities do not work for iris scans.

I hope you find the previous information useful.

Have a nice day.

Regards,

There seems to be no a distance restriction to 20 cm, researchers at CMU and elsewhere can do it very far away... key is the resolution or sum of pixels from the iris should cover a 200x200 pixels area for the iris which is usually 12 mm across ...  of the realsense cameras, maybe some can do this  at farther distance due to high definition resolutions ?
