Hello chris2306,

We understand you're having issues installing the latest drivers for your wireless adapter. In order to better assist you, we would like to have some more information:

- Which operating system are you using?

- What is the brand and model of your computer?

- Is this the original adapter or an upgrade part?

- Is the adapter not working with the drivers (you're unable to detect wireless networks, for example), or are the drivers not installing?

- Do you receive any type of error message or notification? If so, please share with us a screenshot or the exact message.

We look forward to hearing back from you.

Best regards,

I'm using Windows 10 on a Toshiba Portege.

The part is original.

It wasn't working so i wanted to reinstall the driver.

It seems that i can't install it right(manually or with Intel ProSet software).

There is no error message appearing.

Hello chris2306,

When it comes to wireless drivers, there are three different versions:

  1. The driver provided by your computer manufacturer: Takes into account feature changes and other customizations made when integrating the adapter into your system.
  2. The Intel® provided generic drivers: will work for most adapters, but don't take into account all the possible modifications.
  3. OS Inbox drivers: older generic drivers provided through Microsoft*. Will often work but not likely to offer optimal performance.

While it's always best to use the drivers provided by your OEM, if you're having issues our generic drivers will serve as a good fall back option. However, in some cases your OEM drivers must be completely removed before our generic version may be installed. For this we recommend following our clean installation steps:

  1. Download and save our latest Intel® PROSet/Wireless Software for your adapter:
    1. http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/network-and-i-o/wireless-networking/000005559.html Download the Latest Driver for Your Intel® Wireless Adapter or
    2. http://http//support.toshiba.com/drivers Toshiba* Drivers and Downloads Support Page.
  2. Under Programs and Features in the Control Panel, uninstall any instance of the "Intel® PROSet/Wireless Software." When prompted, choose to "discard settings."
  3. Go to the Device Manager > Network Adapters > Right click on your Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless-AC 3160 and uninstall it. Make sure to select the option to "Delete the driver software for this device."
  4. Clear out your temporary files: Press the Windows* Key + R to open the run box. Type Cleanmgr.exe and press OK. Here you will need to make sure Temporary Files are checked, you may uncheck everything else (unless you're ok with the extra wait) and press OK.
  5. Reboot your computer.
  6. Install the Intel® PROSet/Wireless Software version that was downloaded back in step one.

After this, you may choose to apply our http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/network-and-i-o/wireless-networking/000005544.html recommended wireless settings.

Here is the file.

But it only shows the Ethernet Connection.

In the device Manager it shows Network Controller under other devices.

Hello chris2306,

Thank you for sharing this report with us.

It's possible that your wireless adapter is defective or has failed. Our recommendation at this point will be to contact your computer manufacturer for warranty support of to purchase a replacement part.
