How to change adaptive brightness on intel HD graphics 530

Just got a new computer and the screen is automatically adjusting the brightness level and I can't figure out how to change it. Im using my old monitor and it never did that on my other computer, and couldn't find anything on the settings for it so I don't think that's it. I've been looking this up for a long time and have tried multiple things including enabling adaptive brightness on the power options in the control panel, which was already off so that's not it. Some people have said that it's the graphics card, but I can't find anywhere how to change it through it, please please help me!

Hello Tigerl18:

In order to better assist you and to provide the most accurate information, we just need to verify a few details.

What is the model of the motherboard?

What is the model of the processor?

If this is a laptop, what is the model of the laptop?

Are you using an external video card?

Which Windows version are you using?

Do you have the option to test the PC with a different monitor and another video cable?

Do you have the option to use a different video port?

Any questions, please let me know.

Regards

Alberto

This is the computer I bought and haven't changed or added anything, all the information you asked for might be here http://www.bestbuy.com/site/hp-envy-desktop-intel-core-i5-12gb-memory-128gb-solid-state-drive-1tb-hard-drive-hp-finish-in-natural-silver/5595422.p?skuId=5595422 HP ENVY Desktop - Intel Core i5 - 12GB Memory - 128GB Solid State Drive + 1TB Hard Drive Multi X6F49AA# ABA - Best Buy

I do have an older monitor that I could try to use but I really don't think that's it, this monitor I'm using now is the same one I've been using for years, and it's never done anything like that before, plus I don't see any settings in it anywhere that would indicate any auto adjusting. I did have to purchase a VGA-HDMI adapter but I doubt that would be it, and I guess I could try to plug it in to a different hdmi slot on the computer, but I want to see if it's anything else (since I'm pretty positive it is) before I go digging in my closet for my old console monitor haha

Hello Tigerl18:

Thank you very much for providing that information.

According to the specifications of the laptop, it says it works with Intel HD graphics 530 controller, so, please try the following drivers:

Beta 4552:

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26464/Intel-Graphics-Beta-Driver-15-45-?product=88345 https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26464/Intel-Graphics-Beta-Driver-15-45-?product=88345

If that does not work then try this one, it s version 4542:

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26404/Intel-Graphics-Driver-15-45-?product=88345 https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26404/Intel-Graphics-Driver-15-45-?product=88345

Since the Intel graphics drivers are generic then they might or might not work, that is why we recommend to use the drivers provided by the manufacturer, I looked for then but it says there are many results showing under HP- ENVY, so it must have an specific model number:

http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers

Also, to rule out a possible problem with the VGA-HDMI adapter if you have the option to use another HDMI port, please try that since it will be very helpful.

Any questions, please let me know.

Regards

Alberto

Ok so I decided to get my old monitor out of the closet, and when I hooked it up, the pages didn't auto adjust the brightness when I went to different web pages that were darker, so that told me it was in fact my monitor. It's really strange because I've never seen it do anything like this before, so I was certain that wasn't the problem. I went into the settings and reset the controls I had it on, and it came up with a message on my screen that said "Dynamic contrast ration on", I don't think I noticed that when I first set it, but that's what the problem was. There is nothing on my monitor to change that myself, it's just part of some of the settings in the monitor for specific specs, so I just had to choose a different setting, which isn't quite as clear but I'm sure I'll get used to it lol, it's a lot better than it auto adjusting the brightness that's for sure. Thank you for suggesting I change out my monitor, I would've never thought that was it, but I figured I'd try everything I could to see what the problem was and sure enough that was it!

Hi! I had a similar problem with my new notebook: brightness was reset (this is the key word!) and adaptive brightness was turned on at every reboot! This was driving me nuts and I spent many hours trying to find a solution.

Finally, I found one on Reddit (copy & paste): Launch Scheduled Tasks and go to Task Scheduler Library -> Microsoft -> Windows -> Display -> Brightness and disable or delete the task in there called "BrightnessReset".

By the way, it seems this new "feature" (???) was introduced with Windows 10 Anniversary Update. ...

Hope it helps if someone is Googling for the same problem.
