Using a driver update program - following a scan - a driver for the processor was downloaded to repace the one identified as "outdated". Now boot stops at Special ATA AHCI BIOS VERSION USPD STC 05-08-2006 Copyright (c) 2003-2006 Intel Corp - THIS VERSION SUPPORTS ONLY HARD DISC & CDROM DRIVES.

Hello Jonsdad, I'm sorry for the delay answering your post.
I would like to inform you that processors do not need a driver update. If you need to update the microcode of the chip it will be through a BIOS update on your motherboard.
Please let me have additional information on the issue you are experiencing. What type of scan did you do and what driver update program you used?
