So from time to time I will get little freezes and a popup saying that "Intel HD has stopped working but..." I was wondering if that lowers my performance and if there is a way to fix this?

What is your current driver? Try both your laptop/motherboard driver and the intel driver.
Try this fix: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lnf6BeviDVc Windows 10 - Display Driver Stopped Responding and Has Recovered - YouTube
With that registry fix you can use either a TdrDelay value of 8 or 10. It seems that under Windows 10 you also have to add another "TdrLevel 3" entry, it is explained further in the comments.
I have Windows 7 and tried everything to fix the issue. Looks like the Intel engineers are aware of it but I can't confirm.

Hi All,
Verify if you already installed the latest Chipset and Management Engine drivers of your motherboard then, reinstall our graphics driver.
For further assistance please run our Intel® System Support Utility and send me the results.
