iwlwifi-8265 linux firmware

Ubuntu 16.04 shows the following firmware load errors in dmesg:

[2.032907] iwlwifi 0000:01:00.0: Direct firmware load for iwlwifi-8265-24.ucode failed with error -2[2.033107] iwlwifi 0000:01:00.0: Direct firmware load for iwlwifi-8265-23.ucode failed with error -2

The firmware available from intel (http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/network-and-i-o/wireless-networking/000005511.html Linux* Support for Intel® Wireless Adapters ) does not include the -23 and -24 firmware files. The latest firmware for the Linux kernel does not have those two files either (https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/firmware/linux-firmware.git/tree/?id=b689306274099710f9f85eaab584604ca11ee54a https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/firmware/linux-firmware.git/tree/?id=b689306274099710f9f85eaab584604ca11ee54a). Files -21, -22, and -27. Wifi is working, though every 10 seconds or so the UI freezes for 1 or so seconds. My issue seems to match this: https://askubuntu.com/questions/904655/how-do-i-fix-ui-lag-on-a-dell-precision-5520-when-using-a-bluetooth-keyboard-ando 16.04 - How do I fix UI lag on a Dell Precision 5520 when using a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse? - Ask Ubuntu . Is iwlwifi 8265 officially supported in Linux?

Hello dupes,

Please keep in mind that driver development happens in the open-source Linux community. If you consider that the drivers or firmware are having issues, please use the distribution lists mentioned in the https://wireless.wiki.kernel.org/en/users/Drivers/iwlwifi Linux Wireless Community Page.

Linux drivers (iwlwifi) are part of the upstream Linux* kernel and supported in the kernel version the driver was a part of.

The firmware file you mentioned is the one available at this time. This can be confirmed in the Linux community page linked before, as well as the http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/network-and-i-o/wireless-networking/000005511.html Linux support advisory you referenced.

Did your computer ship with this adapter and OS installed? If it did, you might want to engage the http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/topics/OEMs.html Computer Manufacturer Support for assistance.

Also, check the note about Wi-Fi / Bluetooth coexistence mentioned the https://wireless.wiki.kernel.org/en/users/Drivers/iwlwifi Linux Community page, as it may be relevant for your case.

Regards,

Hi Jonathan,

The Linux driver is attempting to load two firmware files that don't exist anywhere. Should the -23 and -24 firmware files be included in the firmware download for the 8265? Is the kernel attempting to load the wrong files? If it is loading the wrong files, what files should it be loading?

Ben

Hello dupes,

In this case, we advise you to use the Support options mentioned in the https://wireless.wiki.kernel.org/en/users/Drivers/iwlwifi Linux Community Page, since Linux driver / firmware issues are handled there. Additionally, you can post your question in external Linux forums dedicated to your distribution.

Regards,

I have the same problem on Ubuntu 17.04. My Wi-Fi isn't working.

My laptop: Lenovo Legion Y520-15 with Intel Core i7-7700HQ and Intel Dual Band Wireless AC8265.

I downloaded unicode files 21, 22, 27 but Ubuntu wants also 23, 24, 25 and 26 unicode files and my wifi doesn't work.

Intel, when will you release this files for linux?

Hello vitaliiorlov,

In this case, we advise to go to the https://wireless.wiki.kernel.org/en/users/Drivers/iwlwifi Linux Community Page since they are the ones that handle driver development. In the "Support" section you will find the email distribution lists from the developers.

We already notified about this on our end, however, we advise you to bring this up in the community page for a prompt response.

Regards,
