Intel 520 Series SSD failing?

I am having some problems with my (Linux) machine and they might be related to the SSD. I ran smartctl to check the drives and some results worry me.

First the "power on hours" is over 900000. Second, the "uncorrectable error count" is over 135 million and rising. Is it an indication my drive is failing or is smartctl interpreting data wrong? Also, how can I test my SSD?

I understand your concern in regards of the SMART Attributes (09h/BBh).

If by any chance you have a Windows* installed, you may test the drive with the https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=18455 Intel® SSD Toolbox.

Thank you for your answer. It turns out that the problem was with the RAM and not the SSD.

I have another question: in the above it says:

SMART Error Log not supported

SMART Self-test Log not supported

So when I run the self-tests I can't see the result. How do I run the self-tests (and see the results) in Linux?

A late reply: Try "smartctl -x" instead of "-a".

The 520 and various other Intel SSDs do not support the old (not 48-bit LBA capable) SMART logs but the new ("extended") logs.

The Power-on Hours counter in the ATA Device Statstics log should report a reasonable value. See related entry on https://www.smartmontools.org/wiki/FAQ http://www.smartmontools.org/wiki/FAQ for a sample output.
