Interl Rapid Storage Technology won't cache my primary disk

I have Windows 8.1 with a 2 TB primary sata disk and 128 GB SSD. I've set the bios to RAID. But, when I click on the performance tab I don't have any options to use the SSD to cache for the SATA Disk.

System is a HP Envy Phoenix, bought brand new 2 years ago.

Thanks for joining the chipset community.

I understand you are trying to accelerate a hard drive using smart response technology.

Please bear in mind, accelerate option is not enabled by default, regular Hard Drive must be in SATA port 0, in order to enable acceleration, you need make sure your SSD has not been previously cached. If so, you are require to format (erase) SSD , the drive has to be unallocated. Also, check if your computer BIOS offers an option for SSD cache or Smart Response.

Please follow recommendations about SSD cache here:

I have downloaded the latest software. The sata drive is on port 0. The SSD drive has been erased and is unallocated.

The option rom menu (ctrl i) has a accelerate option but the option is greyed out.

Intel Rapid Storage Technology software does not have a Accelerate tab but does have a performance tab but there is no option to enable acceleration.

I believe that HP doesn't provide that option in its older computers ( don't know if they do in their newer computers or not ). They instead use a third party software from Condusiv ( https://www.condusiv.com/partners/oem/technologies/expresscache/ ExpressCache - 3x Your PC Speed | Diskeeper ) to provide the accelerated drive functionality. If you have performed a system recovery, You may or may not find the installer in your C:\ SWSETUP >> APP>> Applications >> Condusiv folder.

That being said, a 128GB SSD to provide acceleration is a waste, You may as well install the OS on it.

Its not that old. 128 is not a waste.

By old I mean a computer such as HP ENVY Phoenix h9-1355 ( anything which uses a older than current generation of chip-sets). But regardless, as I said I don't know if HP does indeed provide the option in even its current generation since it *used to* provide the functionality with the Condusiv software.

p.s: going thru the link provided by Allan ( http://www.intel.com/support/chipsets/sb/CS-032826.htm Chipset Software — Intel® Smart Response Technology User Guide) I believe actually, the HP computers don't have that capability since they are based on the z75 chipset. Newer models based on the z87 chipset should have that capability.

Looking at the Z75 chipset you are correct that Intel removed SSD caching from that chipset. It kinda of sucks that all the other 7X chipsets have the capability while Z75 does not. Seems silly that Intel removed that capability for just the Z75. I'll give up trying to use IRST for caching.... Thank you for the specific note.

Other links that point to the lack of caching for the Z75 chipset:
