Intel® Dual Band Wireless-AC 8260 - Hostapd limited to 8 connections

Hello World,

configuring the WLAN card to act as a wireless hotspot under Ubuntu 16.04 using hostapd.

I face a limitation with the maximum number of connected clients, the number of clients that I get on the Intel card is max. 8.

With the same configurations a USB Realtek dongle is able to host 50 connections.

Looks like a limitation on the WiFi card. Is there an option to overcome this limitation by firmware\software?

I do not have the option to change the card as the work is done for a 300 unit project. There is no option to use external equipment due to certification issues.

Thank you

Hello p.datii,

Eight clients is a common limitation for wireless hotspots (this is also the limit for Windows® 10 created hotspots).

Since Linux* drivers for our adapters are open-source, and developed by the Linux* community, our best recommendation in this case will be to engage the https://ubuntuforums.org/ Ubuntu Forums, or the https://wireless.wiki.kernel.org/en/users/Drivers/iwlwifi iwlwifi support community for assistance. They will be the best source of information and may be able to provide a workaround if one is available.
