Doom (2016) will not start on Skull Canyon

I have the Skull Canyon, with 16GB and a pair of RAID0 Samsung 950s. I just bought Doom (2016, the new one) and it won't even start. No errors, nothing. The Internet, reliable as it is, points to the graphics card not being good enough.

Has anyone got it to work, or even load?

Hello, All:

Thank you for contacting the Intel Communities.

I would like to gather some information about this in order to perform some tests on my end.

1. Please provide me with the Intel® System Support Utility report.

2. Fill out the form added here /thread/77761 https://communities.intel.com/thread/77761

How to get that report?

-Access: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25293/Intel-System-Support-Utility https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25293/Intel-System-Support-Utility

-Download the utility

-Scan your system with the utility

-Export the report and attach it to your answer with the advanced editor option

I look forward to hearing from you.

Hi Esteban,

I'm having the same issues on the NUC6i5SYK (Iris 540) and NUC6i7KYK (Iris Pro 580).

Attached the SSU report and the Crash-Dump from Doom.

Just to let you know:

Updated the NUC6i7KYK with bios 0035 (VGA FW is now 1040.) an installed the latest v4454 drivers => Doom still crashes

Hello Everyone,

As you might have read online, Intel announced that we are moving from beta support to full official support for the Vulkan* API on Windows going forward.

Vulkan* targets high performing real-time 3D graphics applications, like games, while giving low-overhead hardware control over GPU acceleration to developers. Vulkan* promises great performance and predictability, while paving the way to better equip games to handle virtual reality or 4k HDR.

For more information on Vulkan*: https://www.khronos.org/Vulkan https://www.khronos.org/Vulkan

The graphics driver 15.45.14.4590 has been posted to Intel Download Center at the following direct link to the driver:

Hi folks. I talked to the senior guys at Intel who look after the NUC, specifically about the Doom issue. First, they gave me the 4454 drivers - this helped resolve virtually all problems with other games. Doom however failed to start.

They said the graphic engineers are aware of the Doom issue and a fix is in the works. The ETA (a week ago) was about a month. So hold tight!

Hello, All:

I would like to confirm that graphics team is already aware of this situation and it is being handled now.

Please take into consideration that this is a really new and demanding game which requires plenty of "juice", not saying that this unit wouldn't be capable of running the game at all, but it is not easy either for the high end graphics cards available in the market to run the game.

The new released v4464 driver isn't fixing the Doom problem I also tried v4471 from the MS Update Catalog.

I know the Iris Pro 580 isn't the strongest graphics solution on the market, but it should be able to run Doom with reduced details and resolution.

I am sorry to hear that Loeschzwerg, but let me update you by saying that the Graphics team is replicating/debugging this issue as of now.

As soon as I get an update for this, will let you know.

digitalhen: Have you tried the latest beta driver (v4474)? It solved the problem for me

Doom is playable at 1366x768 and High settings, Medium gives you a boost of ~3-4fps. At 1280x720 you can use the preset Ultra and activate the highest antialiasing mode. 1920x1080 sadly is a "no go" even at lowest settings.

Hello, All:

There is another thread that I would like you to check that has more information about this matter.

/thread/102309 https://communities.intel.com/thread/102309

As Loeschzwerg was saying, this is playable with the driver 4474 and settings provided as well.

Personally tested it and it worked, some screenshots and additional information has been added to the thread above.

If any additional inquiries are present, please let us know.

Regards,

As several times mentioned OpenGL mode is running with driver 20.19.15.4474 and 21.20.16.4475, Vulkan mode (which is supposed to be faster) does not start with all available Vulkan drivers from Intel. At least not on a HD 530, Iris 540, Iris Pro 580.
