Understanding processor power consumption/performance

Hi Intel,

Really a simple question: what is the difference between i3/i5/i7 models (and similarly m3/m5/m7) in terms of power usage, performance and heat generation? Are the i7 cores able to give better processing performance with the same power draw/heat generation as i5 and i3? Or are they just more stable and hence able to use more power (and thus generate more heat) for an increased performance?

Ok, maybe I asked the question wrong.

All (?) Core m series will be thermally limited in laptops and will be throttled. My question is at the same max tdp of 7W (or 20W in case or Core i) will a m7 give higher performance than a m5/m3?

The use of Configurable TDP-up and TDP-down is typically executed by the system manufacturer to optimize power and performance. Please bear in mind that mobile processor can go up to 100C if you are talking about thermal issues.

If an m3 and an m7 are TDP limited below their max performance, will the m7 have more processing power than an m3 at the same TDP? Or an i7 more than an i3?

Processing performance will depend on the processor speed and physical memory.

Comparing both processor models you will always get better performance out of m7
