Yesterday I went on ebay to see if I could find some cheap processors - I normally don't use ebay - and I was amazed by the prices for the xeons. Today I was on a xeon page and scrolled down to see some weird explaination how it wasn't compatible with motherboard x while having the right socket. I looked around on the internet and found out that people aren't supposed to own those (engineering samples) processors. So now's my question: is it illegal if I buy said processor?

Hello AkimboB.:
In regard to your question, it is not illegal, you can always purchase one of them, is just that we do not recommend to do that, since that type of processors were manufactured for testing purposes, there are no warranty on them and some of them might not work properly.
On the following link you will be able to get further information about ES processors:

Any further questions, please let me know.

Alberto
