i7 7700K drivers for Dell Precision 3620 - "system does not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software."

Tried to install the latest drivers through the setup and through the manual step but no joy.

Get the error "system does not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software."

Is there anyway to install the drivers?

Starting to think that the performance isn't as good as my old XPS 8100's from 2010!!! Maybe should have gone for i7 6700s.....

Disks seem slower transfer (50-70mbs rather than 150mbs - wd re and seagate constellation, in 4 workstations) and they seem a tad slower overall than I'd expect for 7 years newer!

Any help would be great.

Thanks

Forgot to say that I'm currently running on windows server 2012 r2 (same as old XPS8100's).

Going to try Windows 2016 see if that is any better on one and re-build the others.

Hello Butler9xx,

Thank you for contacting the Intel community.

In this case, the graphics driver for this processor does not support Windows® server, this driver was made for Windows® 10 only on this 7 generation processor. You can check here:

Same thing happens if you install the Intel® i7-6700 processor except that this processor support for Windows® 10, Windows® 8.1 and Windows® 7.

Also, if you take a look at your Dell system configuration, this system does not support Windows® Server either, you can see here:

NOTE: This link is being offered for your convenience and should not be viewed as an endorsement by Intel of the content, products, or services offered there.

I know that perhaps this is not what you expected to see but unfortunately it is not supported.

About your disk transfer, you can try updating the BIOS with your motherboard manufacturer but most likely to have better performance you will need to use a compatible operating system.

Best wishes,

So what we are saying is that old Pentium 820's from 2010 can run the server operating systems but Intel and Dell have decided that's far too useful to continue on newer chips from i7 6700 onwards. This even though 2012 R2 is based on windows 8.1 and 2016 based on windows 10.

Microsoft have said they do not limit their server operating systems by chip generation; but that is worth naught if they guys that build the hardware do not support it.

Very disappointing to see.

However, could I install Windows 10. Then install server guest o/s then run more guests on that server. What a farce.

I'm sorry that this is not what you expected, but this is the reality with this system, you can install Windows® 10 and I'm sure it will work perfectly fine but for Windows® server there are no drivers available. You can try contacting your system manufacturer, they might have a solution for you with different type of system or something similar but according with the Dell website I posted above the motherboard does not support it either.

Have a great day!
