Hitman DX12 glitches

Hi!

It seems that the IGP of Skylake systems have some issues with the DX12 codepath of the most recent Hitman game.

I tested Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-6100 CPU (gfx driver - 20.19.15.4463) and Skull Canyon - NUC6i7KYK (gfx driver - 21.20.16.4451).

First of all, sometimes the game refuses to start, I got a Windows pop-up window with the message: HITMAN has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.

If the game starts as expected, one can observe a huge glaring splodge in some specific areas of the game. Other glitch that I found is that for no obvious reason, the game displays rainbow colors all over the place, usually on the floors and walls.

I haven't noticed these glitches with DX11 API.

Thanks!

Hello Toorop:

In order to fix this problem, what we can try is to un-install the current driver, and re-install driver version 4474 manually for both, the Intel® i3-6100 processor and for the Intel® NUC6i7KYK NUC:

Instructions to install the driver manually Windows® 8 and 10:

http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/graphics-drivers/000005629.html http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/graphics-drivers/000005629.html

Instructions to install the driver manually Windows® 7:

http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/graphics-drivers/000005474.html http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/graphics-drivers/000005474.html

Here is the link for the driver 4474:

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/product/88357/Intel-Iris-Pro-Graphics-580-for-6th-Generation-Intel-Core-Processors https://downloadcenter.intel.com/product/88357/Intel-Iris-Pro-Graphics-580-for-6th-Generation-Intel-Core-Processors

Did the game work fine before?

Which windows version are you using?

Have you try a BIOS update latest version on the NUC?

Here you have the instructions to do it using the F7 method:

http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/boards-and-kits/desktop-boards/000005724.html http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/boards-and-kits/desktop-boards/000005724.html

Here is the .BIO file that you need for the latest BIOS version 0037 for the NUC:

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26087/BIOS-Update-KYSKLi70-86A-?product=89187 https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26087/BIOS-Update-KYSKLi70-86A-?product=89187

What is the model of the board that is working with the Intel® i3-6100 processor?

Did you try a BIOS update to the latest version on that board?

Any questions, please let me know.

Experiencing some problem as well. But on DX11. Just bought my Mac Mini. And installed win 7 on bootcamp. I can play The Division just fine. The game runs smoothly.

But when it comes to Hitman... the graphic went black once in awhile. If the character is inside a building the game runs just fine. But if outside the building expose to the sun..the graphic turns black for a sec and slowly went back to normal. It happens often especially if I see the sun directly. I have tried adjusting the graphic setting to the lowest, turn off everything...not working.

I've been updating the graphic driver to the latest hoping it will fix it but nothing. Should I update to DX 12?

Hi Alberto!

About the two systems:

1) Intel Skull Canyon (nuc6i7kyk) with the latest bios (KY0037).

2) The i3-6100 CPU is in a Gigabyte GA-Z170N-WIFI rev1.0 motherboard with the latest bios (F7).

OS: Window 10 Pro 64-bit (Build 14393) for both systems.

To narrow thing down, I will report my findings and issues with the Skull Canyon NUC.

Reverting back to driver version 4474 didn't resolve the glitch. Interestingly, the in-game benchmark with DX12 is now nearly all white. With the most recent driver that I had used initially, it was like rainbows all over the screen, but not overblown.

I attach the SSU and the report from the Intel® HD Graphics control panel, hope it helps!

Hello Toorop:

Thank you very much for that information and for providing all those details.

At this point, since the BIOS update and the driver 4474 did not work, we will try to replicate the issue in our lab.

For us to be able to do that, besides the information you gave us above, we need more details about the problem, so, please fill the following char with as much information as you can:

Hello Toorop:

No problem at all, thank you very much for providing that information, it will be very useful for us in order to continue with our investigation to try to find a possible resolution for this issue.

As soon as I get any updates, I will post all the details on this thread.

In the mean time, did you try to use the inbox drivers?

Those are the ones that get installed when you install Windows, or when you do Windows updates, please try to un-install the Intel drivers, and try the ones from Microsoft, and let us know the results.

Any questions, please let me know.

Alberto

Hi,

I uninstalled the Intel drivers, but the Windows update installs the Intel driver 4474. Is there a way to force those "inbox drivers"? Or a way to download them and install manually?

BTW, I don't expect that MS inbox drivers will make those glitches disappear. Intel should collaborate closely with game devs to iron out these issues.

Hello Toorop:

The reason for that to happen in this case is because the driver that Microsoft has is the 4474.

I just received some updates from the investigation we are doing, and there is a driver that should fix this problem.

Please install the following driver manually, it is version 4501:

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26228/Intel-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-10-and-Windows-7-8-1-15-40-?product=80939 https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26228/Intel-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-10-and-Windows-7-8-1-15-40-?product=80939

Any questions, please let me know.

Hi,

the new driver does nothing, the glaring spots and colorful patterns are still present in the DX12 version.

Hello Toorop:

Since the problem remains after the installation of driver 4501, another possible solution will be to get into the Intel® graphics control panel, select "3D" and then choose "Performance" , please let me know the results of trying that option.

Any questions, please let me know.

Hi,

I am glad that you were able to replicate the issue in the lab!

The "3D" ---> "Performance" option didn't have an effect on the glitches, no change.

Can't wait to see the fix! Good luck with it!
