How to select a specific version of SSD firmware to use?

I want to test various SSD firmware versions using the same SSD, don't have to preserve SSD content.

Any suggestions how to do get the specific versions of firmware loaded into SSDs? the firmware update tool does not seem to provide a choice.

Thanks,

Jason

Hello Anotherjasonz,

We understand you would like to verify the firmware version on different SSDs. We would like to let you know that using the firmware update tool is not possible, but here are the two software you can use to determine each current firmware version:

-https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26837/Intel-Solid-State-Drive-Toolbox Intel® Solid-State Drive Toolbox

-https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26749/Intel-SSD-Data-Center-Tool Intel® Data Center Tool

Normally, you can use the Intel® Solid-State Drive Toolbox for consumer drives and the Intel® Data Center tool for the SSDs that belong to the Data Center family.

In the Intel® Solid-State Drive Toolbox, you can just install the program and select the SSD you want to view the info.

For the Intel® Data Center tool, you need to install the program and use the command prompt or terminal to run the commands, in your case the command you need to run is:

cd C:/isdct - Hit enter

C:\Isdct show -intelssd

That will display all the SSDs present that belong to the Data Center Family.

Please keep in mind that Intel® Solid-State Drive Toolbox only works in Windows* operating systems.

Let us know if you need any more assistance.

Regards,

Hi Nestor,

Thanks for the reply. we are using data center SSDs, and I was able to see the firmware version with smartctl.

Since I need to test with different versions of SSD firmware, I would like to load the desired version into SSD, to avoid many many SSDs around with different firmware versions. Would really appreciate if you can point me to the right direction.

I will look for a windows machine to check out the data center tool to see if it has that capability.

Thanks,

Jason

Hi Anotherjasonz,

If we understand correctly, you would like to test different firmware versions on some SSDs? Correct?

If that is the case, you may use the oldest version of the https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/23931/Intel-SSD-Data-Center-Tool Intel® SSD Data Center Tool, and if you scroll down you will see the other versions: 3.0.2, 3.0.3, 3.0.4.

To load the firmware on each SSD, you need to use this command: isdct -load

Hi Nestor,

Yes, I want to use the same set of SSDs to test different versions of firmware. I think your suggestion should do what I want to do. Will test it out.

Thanks!
