Loooking at the https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/27147/Intel-Rapid-Storage-Technology-Intel-RST-?product=55005http:// prerequisites for RST (Version: 15.8.1.1007) it looks like, but I'm not sure, my Dell Latitude E5540 does not live up to those - other than the OS: Win7 x64.

I also found https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/20110/RST-and-AHCI-Driver-and-GUI another version (RST and AHCI Driver and GUI, Version: 11.6.0.1030) but it was not for my cumputer either:

Intel(R) Rapid Storage Technology is designed to provide

functionality for the following Storage Controllers:

RAID Controllers:

- Intel(R) Desktop/Workstation/Server Express Chipset SATA RAID Controller

- Intel(R) Mobile Express Chipset SATA RAID Controller

- Intel(R) ICH7R/DH SATA RAID Controller

AHCI Controllers:

* 2. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

************************************************************

1. The system must contain one of the Intel controllers listed in

section 1 above and one of the following processors:

- Intel(R) vPro

- Intel(R) Celeron

- Intel(R) Pentium

2. The system must be running on one of the following

operating systems:

- Microsoft Windows 7*

- Microsoft Windows 7* x64-bit Edition**

- Microsoft Windows 8*

- Microsoft Windows 8* x64-bit Edition**

- Microsoft Windows Server* 2008

- Microsoft Windows Server* 2008 x64-bit Edition**

- Microsoft Windows Media Center* Edition

My CPU is a 4th Generation Intel® Core™ i3 Processor (Haswell; i3-4010U).

And RAID-controller is: Intel(R) ICH8M-E/ICH9M-E SATA RAID Controller [the computer is set in BIOS to run RAID-on]).

I could find none of them in the specifications, which I think is quite stragne.

So hopfully I got it wrong because I think the RSTwill solve some issues I need to fix for my E5540.

Thankfully hoping to get this straightend out.

EDIT

There is an https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26759/Intel-Rapid-Storage-Technology-Intel-RST-?product=55005 earlier version (14.8.14.1063) of the RST, but it doesn't state what hardware prerequisites that comes with the driver - not even in the https://downloadmirror.intel.com/26759/eng/release_notes_14_8_16_1063_pv.htm release notes. Hopfully some one here knows if it will work for my E5540.

If you have a 4th generation Core processor, you also have a 8 Series mobile chipset (no, it's not the ICH8M-E/ICH9M-E chipset that you somehow identified). Support for RST is definitely available.

The question is what do you want to do with it? You can only use it with connected SATA drives and, in a laptop, you can typically only install a SATA drive in one bay (which makes the feature almost useless...

Thanks for reply Scott!

Frist - why I would like to run the RST: It will hopefully solve an issue I have with installing Windows XP Mode on my computer (I get continuously BSOD and have got the suggestion that this driver would fix the problem).

So, it suddenly came to me, I would maybe rather get a RST-driver for Windows XP to get this to work (if there is any such driver) - but if so, I don't know how to install that driver since I can't get Windows XP Mode to install (if it isn't possible to install the driver i advance - as part of the Win XP installation).

But I'm still not convinced though (if the driver is supported for my computer) - or sure about which one of the version you mean will work for me:

The https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/27147/Intel-Rapid-Storage-Technology-Intel-RST-?product=55005http:// prerequisites for latest RST Version (15.8.1.1007) says support for Core processors but only the 6:th & 7:th generations. Nothing about 4:th generation.

The https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26759/Intel-Rapid-Storage-Technology-Intel-RST-?product=55005 earlier version (14.8.14.1063),as I mentioned before, doesn't state what hardware prerequisites that comes with the driver but you might have the information -and that it supports the 4:th Core gen - and it would be great if I could have the link to that info.

About the "Intel(R) ICH8M-E/ICH9M-E SATA RAID Controller" - I found this information in the Device Manager (Lagringsenheter is Swedish for, something like, "Storage Controller Units"):

But maybe this is not the relevant hardware info in question?

Could you help me sort this out so it's really sure I get the right driver?

If you truly have a Core i3-4010U processor, then this Device Manager result should not be possible. The 8 Series chipset that is used with this processor did not even have an ICH (I/O Controller Hub) component. It only had a PCH (Peripheral Controller Hub) component. The ICH8M-E is ancient; it was part of the old 2 Series (also know as the 965) chipset and it supported the operation of the (also ancient) Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Quad processors.

The version of RST that was shipped with the D34010WY NUCs (which also had the Core i3-4010U processor in it) is available here: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/24501/NUCs-Intel-Rapid-Storage-Technology-RAID-for-Intel-NUC-Kit-D34010WY-D54250WY?product=76978 Download Intel® Rapid Storage Technology (RAID) for Intel® NUC Kit D34010WY, D54250WY. Try this version (it is v14.5.0.1081).

I hope this helps, but I frankly don't give it much chance. This driver is for supporting RAID and Disk Caching.

Thanks again Scott!

I've understood that the driver I'll have to install should be done on to the Win XP Mode installation. That is, I'll have to find some RST-driver compatible with both my E5540 and Win XP.

So the question now is if there is such a RST driver available?

No, you should NOT be installing this into the WinXP image. Only the base OS should need it.

Listen, where are you getting this (so-called) sage advice? I am starting to think that they don't know what they are talking about...

Ok. I got the pic.

The sage advice came from one (1) poster at a Swedish OC-forum "https://www.sweclockers.com/forum/post/17124383 SweClockers".

One later poster discusses (yesterday) the issues with getting RST working in environment such as my system.

I guess I'll give this idea (for WinXP Mode) up for the E5540.

Thanks anyway for your support!
