CAN I SWAP A NEW I7-8700 WITH MY OLDER I7-7700 A Z-170 MOTHERBOARD

I have an Acer Predator G3-710 (KBL) U3E1) from Costco. The computer came stock with the i7-7700 (Kaby Lake) I came across an i7 8700 processor and figured I'd try it and see if it was worth purchasing it. I could not get anything to boot up or load at all. Am I wrong in thinking that it should? From my VERY LIMITED KNOWLEDGE of computers it looks like they both utilize the same socket 1151 LGA and it definitely installed and fit perfectly. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I also updated the ram from 32 GB of DDR4 2400 to 32 GB of DDR4 2666 (1333MHZ) 17,17,17,39. The memory is four 8 GB sticks of Micron Technology part # 8ATF1G64AZ-2G6H1. If anyone on here has overclocked this set up or knows if these two processors should be a direct swap with each other. My BIOS version R02-A2 was downloaded off of the ACER website. The BIOS is American Megatrends INC. R02-A2. Thanks again

Well, as you know, they are socket compatible:

However, you must check with ACER to determine if their BIOS supports the i7-8700.

An upgrade processor must be socket, BIOS, and chipset compatible.
