UHD620 video hardware decoding cause inaccurate color

When I watch youtube with chrome, I found that the the color of video was inaccurate, i.e. green being too green, orange being too yellowish etc.. And if I pause the video or move my mouse to make the video control to show up, the color returns to normal. If I disable the hardware acceleration for video in chrome://flags, the color is always normal. So I'm pretty sure that it's the Intel UHD620 videl hardware decoding that causes the inaccurate color. Is there any way to fix this issue? The problem only occurs when video is played in full screen.

Just installed the latest driver version (24.20.100.6286) and for me, the colors no longer change when the youtube overlay is present. I still have that weird one that only appears on low resolution videos

In order to help you better I would like to gather more information about the configuration you have in the computer. Does the issue happen if you play the same video on different browser?

 

 

To attach a file, you must click "Use Advanced Editor" on the upper right hand corner of the response box, then the "attach" option will appear on the bottom right hand corner of the response box.

Yes, this issue also occurs in Microsoft Edge, but the difference is that in Edge the color won't change to normal when video is paused.

Thanks for the information you sent to me.

 

 

Since your computer comes with two video cards there is a special graphics driver that will make both video cards work fine with each other. This graphics driver is provided by the computer manufacturer only. I recommend reinstalling the graphics drivers your computer manufacturer provides on their website.

 

 

We can try installing generic drivers from our website, but I cannot guarantee our drivers will be able to work fine. If the drivers I am going to provide do not work correctly please reinstall the graphics drivers the computer manufacturer provides for your system.

 

 

Please download Intel graphics driver from this link https://downloadmirror.intel.com/27266/a08/win64_15600.4849.zip https://downloadmirror.intel.com/27266/a08/win64_15600.4849.zip

 

 

Please download NVIDIA* driver from this other link http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/127269/en-us http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/127269/en-us

 

 

Once both drivers have been downloaded uninstall our graphics driver first. On the keyboard press WinLogo key + r, then type in devmgmt.msc, double click on Display Adapters -> Intel HD Graphics -> Driver tab -> Uninstall -> Select the check box Delete the driver software for this device -> OK, but do not restart the computer yet.

 

 

Please also uninstall NVIDIA* driver. In Device Manager double click on Display Adapters -> NVIDIA GeForce MX150 -> Driver tab -> Uninstall -> Select the check box Delete the driver software for this device -> OK, and then restart the computer.

 

 

Once both video drivers have been uninstalled please reinstall our graphics driver first using the steps that are on this YouTube video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S1KzoQDjMMY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S1KzoQDjMMY

 

 

Once our graphics driver has been installed you can reinstall NVIDIA* driver.

 

 

Test the system, and let me know if issue persists or not.

I've installed the latest driver, but the color is still off. I don't think it's a unintentional bug, but some intentional "color enhancement". I need to know how to turn this effect off.

Color calibration is now handled by the operating system itself, not by our Intel® Graphics Control Panel. Have you tried calibrating colors from Windows 10*? It's not that the screen's color is off, but the video. If I turn off hardware acceleration in Chrome, so that Chrome uses CPU's software decoding, the color is normal. If I turn on hardware acceleration, so that Chrome uses UHD 620's hardware decoding, the color is abnormal.

Have you tried other browser besides Windows Edge and Google Chrome?

 

What is the version of browsers?

 

Review if Windows® is up to date?

 

Can you provide an example of error with a picture or video?

 

Have you tried using the laptop connected to different display?

1. No, but I don't feel like using other browsers.

2. My browsers are all up to date.

3. My Windows is version 1709.

4. If I take a screenshot, the color in the screenshot is normal. So I have to use a camera to capture what is actually displayed. Here are the best I can do. I intentionally make them slightly out of focus to avoid moire pattern.

The right one is the normal one. The left one is abnormal, as you can see the green is oversaturated, and the grid lines are hardly visible.

5. I don't have other displays, so I can't do that.

I tried to reproduce the issue in our lab, but I did not get the same behavior. I tried with a monitor and also with a TV in single monitor with different video cables. I used the following configuration:
  • Intel® NUC Kit NUC7i3BNH
  • Intel® HD Graphics 620
  • Graphics driver 23.20.16.4901 and also tried 23.20.16.4877
  • Windows 10 Pro 64-bit (Build 16299)
  • CTL IP2152 - LED monitor using USB Type-C to Displayport* adapter
  • LG 55UH8500 TV using HDMI to HDMI cable
  • Google Chrome version 63.0

 

I used the exact same YouTube video you used, I tested Google Chrome with and without hardware acceleration, but I did not notice any change in the colors.

Did you test in theater mode? The problem seems not to occur in youtube theater mode.

Did you do exactly what I did in my video? Moving mouse in and out the player to let the control UI show and disappear? What about testing on a laptop? Because HD 620 may behave differently from UHD 620.

I've already replaced my laptop but the problem remains. Besides, my friend's laptop and another user in this thread also experience this problem, so I think this problem exist objectively.

  • Intel® Compute Card CD1M3128MK
  • Intel® HD Graphics 615
  • Graphics driver 23.20.16.4901
  • Windows 10 Pro 64-bit (Build 16299)
  • ASUS* VE278Q monitor using miniDP to Displayport* cable
  • Google Chrome latest version

 

I tried the exact same video you tried in default view, theater mode and full screen with and without hardware acceleration.

 

 

I also tried Microsoft Edge, but I was not able to reproduce the problem.
