Hello dantmnf,

Thank you for joining the Intel Community Support.

I would like to replicate this issue.

Please provide the following information.

Please scan it using the Intel® System Support Utility. Follow the steps below:

1.Download the Intel® System Support Utility and save the application to your system.

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25293/Intel-System-Support-Utility-for-Windows-?product=91600

2.Open the application and click Scan to see system and device information. The Intel® System Support Utility defaults to the Summary View on the output screen following the scan. Click the menu where it says summary to change to Detailed View.

3.To save your scan, click Next and click Save. You can save the file to any accessible location on your computer.

4. Attach the report to this thread.

Run the DxDiag tool. Follow the steps below:

1. In the keyboard, press WinLogo key + R.

2. In the Run box please type dxdiag and hit Enter.

3. Click on Save All Information (save it in your desktop).

4. Attach the report to this thread.

Please provide any video format or upload it.

Here is the SSU report and dxdiag report.

I also attached the video I used to test and what I see (exact the same to that in the Chromium bug report).

Hello dantmnf,

I thought we had all the information we needed about this issue, but we also need the DispDiag.
  1. Click on the "Start Menu" -> Type "cmd" -> Then a command shell window will open
  2. In the command shell, type "dispdiag -out %homepath%\Desktop\DispDiag-Intel-Issue.dat" -> The command shell will output something similar to "Dump File: C:\Users\[username]\DispDiag-# -# -# -# .dat"
  3. Locate the .dat file on your desktop and include DispDiag-Intel-Issue.dat in the Intel Community Forum

Hello dantmnf,

Thank you for your patience.

Please follow these steps and let us know how your Microsoft Surface 3 deals with the issue reported.

1. First, try using the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter and verify if the issue still occurs.

- Open Device Manager.

- Click Yes when prompted for permission from User Account Control.

- Expand the Display adapters section.

- Right-click the Intel® graphics entry and select Update Driver Software.

- Click "Browse my computer for driver software".

- Click "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer".

- Select the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter

- Test the performance of the unit.

2. Does the issue occur if using an external monitor/display?

3. Does the issue occur with an older driver that comes directly from your system manufacturer?

Hello,

Here is the result:

1. The issue doesn't occur if using Microsoft Basic Display Adapter.

2. The issue doesn't occur if an external display is showing contents. (in duplicate, extend and second screen only mode)

3. The issue occurs with all versions of drivers from device vendor.

Hello dantmnf,

Thank you for your response.

We attempted to reproduce the issue using our Intel® NUC units such as Intel® NUC Kit D34010WYKH, which uses the same driver as the Microsoft Surface 3. However, no issues were encountered.

Because your system has an embedded processor, we recommend you to contact Microsoft to address this issue properly as they can reproduce these issues using the exact hardware you are having problems with.

Hello,

Sorry for the late reply.

Recently I reproduced the issue on an Acer laptop with HD 520 GPU (i5-6200U) and a Dell XPS 15 9570 with UHD 620 GPU (i5-8300H), using the Windows 10 Movies & TV app.

The issue occurs if laptop panel (eDP) is the only display connected, so I think NUC is not a good choice to attempt reproducing it.

Hello dantmnf

Thank you for your response.

I would like to verify with you if you have tried to disable the adaptive contrast on your system?

Best Regards,

Hello dantmnf

Thank you for your response.

I have found that there is a feature called "Enable adaptive brightness" on the operating system (OS). I would recommend switching it off to see if this helps on your case.

Please go to system settings> power and sleep> additional power settings> change plan settings> change advanced power settings> display> enable adaptive brightness, and set them on off.

Hope his help.

Best Regards,

Leonardo C.

Hello,

It doesn't help on the Surface system, and the other two systems don't have this feature.

I would appreciate not being asked for whether an option in control panel or something else would help.

Hello dantmnf

Thank you for your response.

I am sorry to hear that this option did not help the case; at this point, I would recommend contacting the system manufacturer to verify if the hardware mentioned above has a sensor that is causing this changes on the systems and possible steps to disable this feature.

Best Regards,

Leonardo C.

Hello,

I'm sure that this is not the cause of the issue.

According to the Chromium sources, I thought the issue is caused by an YUV format swap chain used in DirectComposition (https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/desktop/api/dxgi1_3/nn-dxgi1_3-idxgifactorymedia IDXGIFactoryMedia | Microsoft Docs ).
