8700k memory controller issue ?

Hello all

Looking for some help to try identify a problem.

I have built a new system using the following hardware

I7 8700k

Gigabyte z370 gaming 7

Corsair vengeance 4x8gb 3000mhz

The problem I am having is that I can not use all 4 sticks of ram. When I try to boot up the system will not post. If I use the memory in channel B the system will post and I can run as per normal. if I put a stick or 2 sticks into channel A the system will not post at all

I have tried loading xmp profiles. I have launched a ticket with gigabyte incase they have any suggestions for the board and the bios (updated to latest) but I have also been led to believe that possibly this could be a cpu problem on the memory controller. I have done a memtest which passed with no errors.

So looking for ideas if there is a way to test the cpu from the equation

Hi

we have the same configuration and I have the same problem. I have already contact Gigabyte ( waiting an answer) and Corsair that we have answered to check the QVL of MoBo. Unfortunately the RAM that I bought there aren't in the QVL list. But before to change my RAM CMR32GX4M4C3200C16 (no compatible) I would to ask to Intel if 32GB 4x8 3200MHz are compatible with CPU i7 8700k 3.7GHZ 12MB cache, LGA 1151.

Thanks

I have been in contact with gigabyte and they came back with checking each slot with one stick of ram which i have done with the two slots closest to the cpu not working. i have updated the bios and that never worked. they also asked me to check for bent pins on the cpu socket. i have just finished checking the socket (which ment draining the system ) and the socket is perfect.

so waiting for them to get back to me. it could be the memory even tho its on there compatability list.

Hi reaper_gfx: Thank you very much for contacting the Intel® Processor communities. We are sorry to hear the PC is not working properly.

In regard to your inquiry, the Intel® i7-8700K processor supports DDR4-2666MHz for memory RAM, to use the memory sticks at 3000MHz might be too much for the processor when using 4 sticks and this problem could be related to that:

https://ark.intel.com/products/126684/Intel-Core-i7-8700K-Processor-12M-Cache-up-to-4_70-GHz https://ark.intel.com/products/126684/Intel-Core-i7-8700K-Processor-12M-Cache-up-to-4_70-GHz

As you mentioned previously, we recommend to use just one stick first, then keep adding the rest of them to identify if it is always the same stick the one that causes the problem, or also to confirm if the problem happens when using an specific memory RAM slot. If the problem happens randomly, when using different slots or sticks, then it could be related to processor or board.

At this point we advice to wait for further suggestions from Gigabyte, if you have the option to test your processor on a different board or test your board with a different processor, we will be able to identify the source of the issue, otherwise we can always replace the unit for you.

If you are interested in that option, please get in contact directly with Intel to verify if the processor is eligible for warranty replacement:

Hello.

Thank you for the reply. I have just finished rectifying the problem. The issue was infact a bent pin on the CPU socket. Out of the systems i have built before using intel chip i have never bent a pin on a socket so i quickly dismissed the idea until i ran out of options on normal config/bios settings and bit the bullet and took the board apart in preperation for an RMA when i saw the pins bent over many of words ran through my head. But with a steady hand and a stanley knife blade i managed to get them back into position now all 4 ram chips are working as expected
