An error occurred when updating NVM on X710 card

I have total 12 hosts running Windows Server 2012 R2 with a X710 card installed on each host. The current firmware version is 4.26.

When I updated NVM version 5.05, some of hosts failed with an error reported after flash has started. However there is not any error message logged on the log.

After the failure, the Windows Device Manager showed "This Device cannot start". The nvmupdate reported "Update not available" and the card version is blank.

I tried to boot to EFI shell and ran nvmupdate64e.efi. The adapter status also showed "Access error". It looks like the card cannot start due to incomplete NVM flash? Is there a way I can "get back" my card, such as force update the firmware even the card was down?

Hi Ryan.Lee,

Thank you for the post. What is the exact model and serial number of your X710?

The original version you have looks different. You can locate the serial number on the white sticker with bar code on the network adapter itself. format usually goes like 15 digits + 6 digits + 6-3.

Thanks,

Hi wb,

As I am at a different location as what the machines/cards are, any other way I can get the serial number remotely, such as Windows command or administration tool?

Hi Ryan.Lee,

Can you check if you can have someone assist in running the SSU tool then send the SSU log to us?

Thanks,

Hi,

I have uploaded the SSU output on the service request. Please check if you can receive it.

Hi Ryan.Lee,

I would suggest you to upgrade to firmware version gradually:

1) Upgrade firs to version 4.53

2) Then from 4.53 upgrade to 5.04

3) From 5.04 to 5.05.

Please note the following:

1) Use driver version 20.0 or 20.1 or 20.2 if you upgrade to 4.53

2) Use driver version 20.3 or 20.4.1 or 20.5 or 20.6 if you upgrade from 4.53 to 5.04

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply.

Currently when I run nvmupdate, it displayed "Update not available" or "Access error", just the same as what I mentioned on the first thread.

I doubt if the card has failed due to incomplete flash last time as the server BIOS even cannot detect the card appropriately after that.

Any way I can force flash the firmware again?
