Drivers for Intel UHD 630 (i7 8750H) and some unusual freezing

Recently I bought a new laptop MSI GE 73 Raider RGB 8 RE with Intel i7 8750H, Intel UHD 630 and gtx 1060 inside and during a week i suffered from strange problem. When i run some applications like Skype, Discord, Opera, Chrome, Battle.net, Uplay, i have a system lagspike (win 10 home) for 0.5-1.5 sec. So as mouse and voice. Another applications like games, sony vegas 12 pro and e.t.c have not this problem - run normally.

Safe mode of OS has not the problem - all runing ok.

I tried to install latest drivers for all and update everything - no results. And I accidentally discovered the reason when I installed a new driver for Intel Graphic and chose do not to reboot the PC. Freezing disappeared, but after rebooting appeared again. When I removed the driver completely - problem gone again. At that time, I realized what the problem was with the new graphic core and its software. If i install the driver again, it does not matter which version - latest or previous versions - freezing appear.

As a temporary solution, I switch all the applications to the nvidia graphics card, but still sometimes the problem occurs.

Hope someone know how to fix this bug, or intel programmers will be able to fix this in future updates.

Hello Hroniker,

I understand that you are currently experiencing freezing issues when in the Windows 10* home.

Regarding this, I would like you to first download both the graphics driver for the integrated graphics and from Nvidia* from the link below:

https://www.msi.com/Laptop/support/GE73-Raider-RGB-8RE# down-driver&Win10%2064 https://www.msi.com/Laptop/support/GE73-Raider-RGB-8RE# down-driver&Win10%2064

This is because those are the ones validated for your computer. Next, I need you to go to device manager and fully uninstall both the integrated graphics and the Nvidia* graphics adapter, keep going until you are only using the Microsoft* Basic Display Adapter, make sure to disconnect your system from the internet to avoid any updates that may get in the way of this procedure.

Once fully uninstalled, proceed to install the drivers that you previously downloaded, start with the one for Intel ® and then the one for Nvidia*. We are following this process because your system supports hybrid graphics and there could be a possible issue with the drivers so we need to make sure to use the ones provided by the manufacturer.

Once the update has been done, reboot the system and use the computer normally, check for any possible lag spikes and let us know the outcome please.

I hope this helps.

Regards,

Hi! Thank you for answer.

I have bad news. The same advice I received from MSI support. And i tried it twice before your answer - no results.

But for the purity of the experiment, I tried again. I followed exactly all the advice, step by step:

1. Deleted all drivers and apps.

2. Reboot

3. Only Microsoft * Basic Display Adapter remained in the system

4. Disconnected internet.

5. Install intel GPU, reboot. After install Nvidia GPU.

6. Reboot

No results. Problem still exists

A few days ago I was showing a laptop in the official service center. They found that the problem is 100% the software, and more precisely in Intell and Nvidia drivers. More in Intel, because after removing or disabling this driver, the problem disappears. They advised me to wait for fixes in the new drivers.

So I hope for an early solution to this problem.

Hello Hroniker,

Thank you for your response.

If that is the case then I would recommend you to keep checking our download center for updated driver versions. I cannot say when there will be an update exactly so I can only recommend to keep checking:

I'm having the same issue here too. Pretty much the same setup but on my Razer blade 2018 model and with a gtx 1070 max q.

I am still experiencing this issue in May 2020 with my Asus Zenbook Pro UX550GD. For me it first started to occur around February 2020.

Since then I even tried to completely reinstall Windows and change from Pro version to Home, did some stress tests on my GPU and CPU but nothing fixed the issue.

I would also like to note that my laptop just freezes, and doesn't give any BSOD or shows the crash/freeze in the Reliability History.

This issue does not happen when I run my laptop in Ubuntu mode.
