Intel® Driver & Support Assistant Availability

Hello - I need to use this tool but for the last 2 days it says "The Intel® Driver & Support Assistant (Intel® DSA) is getting a tune up. We are sorry for the inconvenience. If you need a driver or software, please use Intel https://downloadcenter.intel.com/ Download Center."

I found ONE driver update I think might work, under "Downloads for Intel® HD Graphics for Previous Generation Intel® Processors",

but it shows to be only for Windows 7 and Vista. It does not mention Windows 10.

I need to see if there is an update available for Core i3 530 @2.93GHz, "Intel HD Graphics" (no following numeral) for Windows 10 Pro.

I need OpenGL >=2.0 for Python/Kivy and only have OpenGL 1.1 now, as reported by Kivy install error message.

I am hoping the tool can identify and verify which driver I need, and/or if any of the later versions might work for my machine.

Any idea when the tool will be available again? Or if a different driver might be what I need?

Thanks.

The IDSA will not help you.

This is your processor:

https://ark.intel.com/products/46472/Intel-Core-i3-530-Processor-4M-Cache-2_93-GHz Intel® Core™ i3-530 Processor (4M Cache, 2.93 GHz) Product Specifications

Neither your (clarksdale) processor nor your graphics are supported on Windows 10:

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000006105/processors.html Does My Intel® Processor Support Microsoft Windows® 10?

The best you can do is to stay with the microsoft generic driver.

So here's what I did.

I went and got one of these: http://www.microcenter.com/product/460004/geforce_gt_710_2gb_low_profile_video_card MSI GeForce GT 710 2GB Low Profile Video Card GT710 2GD3HLP - Micro Center

Stuck it in my one PCIe x16 slot, downloaded latest driver from NVidia, and problem solved.

I now have DirectX 12, OpenGL 4.6, PCI Express 2.0, and who knows what all else, and I can run the Python/Kivy GUI package.

And the box seems to run faster and smoother, especially File Manager scrolling display update.

I highly recommend this card.

For $48, I basically have a machine that now runs like new.

Couldn't be happier.

That is a good solution.

Just some caution - Who knows how long Microsoft will continue running Windows 10 on your processor...

Doc,

Thanks. Yeah, I know at some point this PC will die of some malady or other, but I've just always been the type to try and use a good running piece of equipment as long as is practicable.

Unless it just becomes a total PIA and counter-productive. I still drive my '89 S10 Blazer 4.3L 4WD, my '02 Camaro L6 5-speed, still use my old Dell OptiPlex 755 from work (Core2Duo Win7 Pro)... and this old Gateway refurb.

I still run a 100-watt Marshall JCM800 amp from the '80s. They still make tubes for it, I'm gonna run it. You can't get better sound.

I still watch a 20-yr-old Toshiba TV. For as much as I watch any, it's all I need. When it dies, I'll get a new flat-screen, but... not until then.

"Use it up, wear it out, make it do or do without." Unless you can really afford to replace it with something newer and better, and need to. In which case, you are truly fortunate.

<<End of philosophical pontification>>

Best regards.
