Hi, I have an i5 8400 8th generation processor installed on an asus B360M-A motherboard. Just need to know can I install windows 7 ultimate 64bit on this computer. Where will I get drivers from or will drivers I got on motherboard CD be enough?

Only windows 10 is supported on 7th and 8th gen processors. There are no drivers for windows 7, from Intel or from Asus.

You can install windows 10 pro, turn on hyper-v, install windows 7 as a vm, and run what you want in the w7 vm.

Hyper-v is the way by which you can run virtual machines.

Once you turn on hyper-v, you can then use your w7 install media to create a windows 7 virtual machine.

So, while Windows 10 is running, you also have the capability of running windows 7. On my windows 10 pro machine, I have both a windows 7 vm, and an XP vm (but do not tell anyone I have an XP vm!

Here is a link to a tutorial on how to setup hyper-v and install windows 7. The bad news is, even if your media is w7 sp1, you still have to endure hours of pain downloading and installing all 300 updates or so that there are for Windows 7 SP1.

Here is another document (this one from Microsoft) that also addresses hyper-v. However, the first link I provided is all that I used to turn on hyper-v, and install the w7 vm.

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/virtualization/hyper-v-on-windows/quick-start/enable-hyper-v Enable Hyper-V on Windows 10 | Microsoft Docs

Now, when you run the w7 vm, you will not have audio. However, you can use Remote Desktop to the W7 VM, and have all the audio you want.

XP is a bit more cumbersome, especially with mouse issues. I only installed XP just to see if I could get it to work. It does, but it serves no useful purpose. And, installing anything lower than XP is not possible, so I have been told.

Anyway, give it a try. I find that it works pretty good. And, if you do use it, the more memory you have on your physical machine, the better. On my machine, I have 32gb. Performance is VERY good. The hyper-v control screen is very functional as well.

So, if you have w10 pro, and a license for W7, the rest is easy because hyper-v is "free".

p.s. I am not compensated by Microsoft for this announcement.

And, if you like to play with linux, you may be interested in this:

So, you can have W7 and XP virtual machines on Windows 10 Pro, and you can have the flavour of Linux you like, all running together in harmony.

Also, some information about your processor.

Super. Let me know how it goes. Also, spend some time exploring the hyper-v manager, and be patient while some setup is occurring.
