OpenGL or 3D?

Help! I use Gamehouse.com. However, but sometimes after I download and try to play a game, I get a message that either OpenGL is not active or 3D is missing. What are those and how do I get them? I have downloaded directx and other drivers to no avail. I'm king of computer illiterate so please, no engineer language as I will just nod and say 'uh uh' like Penny on Big Bang Theory.
