D430 depth module connect directly to a Raspberry Pi or other controller

Hey there,

I'm exploring the possibility to connecting the D430/etc depth module to a Raspberry Pi through the 50 pin Novastack35-P, bypassing the D4.

Has anyone done this?

Has anyone connected it to any controller board besides the D4?

Would it be possible to take the Novastack, rearrange the pins and send them to an ArduCam USB 3.0 shield?

Basically I need to get the images from the cameras without interference from the D4.

Any advice would be appreciated, I'm just starting out on the journey of D430 -> USB3/Ethernet/Other.

There is an official Intel guide for connecting a 400 Series camera to a Raspberry Pi 3 Model B. Its capabilities are limited though compared to use with a full USB 3 PC though, due to the USB 2.0 connection a Pi must use.

Officially, Intel does not support custom setups on the 50 pin connectors.

My understanding is that the camera's USB connector is on the D4 board, and power and data is passed onward to the Depth Module. So even if you could replicate the power supply with the Novastack35, the depth module would not necessarily receive the camera's data intact.

The link below to the data sheet for the RealSense modules contains the technical details and schematics of the D4 and its connection to the depth module. The D4's processing is efficient enough though that there may not be much advantage gained in going to the trouble of using a NovaStack35 instead.

Yeah, what I'm asking is whether anyone here has successfully bypassed the D4, and how did they do it.

The purpose of this post is not about hooking the D435 to a Raspberry PI, but the D400 stereo module, through the 50 pin, directly to a multi CSI-2 interface of some sort.

I understand that this might not be actively supported by Intel.
