According to its datasheet, your Gigabyte GA-945GCM-S2C motherboard supports Intel Core 2 Duo, Intel Core 2 Quad and Intel Core 2 Extreme Desktop processors.

The following Intel Core 2 Duo processors both support virtualization and are in the CPU Support list for your motherboard:

E6300, E6320, E6400, E6420, E6540, E6550, E6600, E6700, E6750, E6850, E7600, E8200, E8300, E8400, E8500 and E8600.

The following Intel Core 2 Quad processors both support virtualization and are in the CPU Support list for your motherboard:

Q6600, Q6700, Q9300, Q9400, Q9450, Q9505, Q9505S, Q9550 and Q9650.

The following Intel Core 2 Extreme processors both support virtualization and are in the CPU Support list for your motherboard:

X6800, QX6700, QX6800, QX6850, QX9650 and QX9770.

Note: Before installing any of these processors -- that is, while still using your old processor -- you must upgrade your board's BIOS to version F6d.

My recommendation? Get a Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9770 if you can find one.
