1920x1080 Y16 is used for calibration because that mode is unrectified (making it suited to use in calibration), whereas 640x480 would be rectified.

In the RealSense Viewer at least, Y16 mode supports 960x540 resolution as well as 1920x1080 . Could you check please if it is possible to set your OEM calibration to 960x540 at 25 FPS or 15 FPS to get closer to your ideal resolution (I have not personally used the OEM calibrator, so do not know if this is possible).
Supported Y16 modes in RealSense Viewer
1920x1080, 25 FPS
1920x1080, 15 FPS
960x540, 25 FPS
960x540, 15 FPS
