Please be aware that 24.0 does not support Microsoft Windows* 10, Version 1903 or Microsoft* Windows Server* 2019, Version 1903. Support for Microsoft Windows* 10, Version 1903 & Microsoft* Windows Server* 2019, Version 1903 will be in release 24.1

SW Release 24.1 will support Microsoft Windows* 10, Version 1903 & Microsoft* Windows Server* 2019, Version 1903 and also include fixes for issues some customers were experiencing with Team and VLAN configuration using PowerShell.

SW Release 24.1 is expected in June of 2019.

The Intel Ethernet team is responsible for validating and submitting new driver packages to Microsoft for inclusion on Windows Update. Microsoft does not support Team and VLAN configuration on Window 10. Team and VLAN configuration for Intel Ethernet Adapters on Windows 10 is supported via our Intel® PROSet software. Intel® PROSet is not included on Microsoft Windows Update.

A humble request from a business user of Intel NICs:

A primary selling point of Intel server ethernet adapters is support for VLANs and teaming under Windows 10. That is why the majority of our workstations use dual or quad Intel adapters. Unfortunately, this capability comes with delayed support as Microsoft rolls out semi-annual updates. From an end-user perspective, each update appears to catch the Intel Ethernet Team by surprise. Full support for Windows 10 1803 (the 2018 spring update) did not arrive until *after* Microsoft automatically updated all machines to 1809, even those with all the "delay updates" options ticked.

As a business supporting end user customers, we need to ensure that upcoming Windows updates do not break our software. I do not know why the Intel PROSet drivers are so brittle when it comes to Windows updates - that is a root cause analysis that Intel should be able to perform. Compatibility with upcoming Windows versions, however, should not be an issue by the time an update hits general availability.

Fast Ring previews start at least a full year prior to a major build release. Given that these releases appear every two weeks, they are probably best utilized in Intel's case as a GRC and for flagging potential problems. The Slow Ring preview should definitely be on developer machines. Features that make it here are far more likely to actually ship than the various test cases in Fast Ring builds. At the very least, using Slow Ring builds would provide the Intel Ethernet Team with a 9+ month head start on Windows 10 features that break PROSet functionality.

The other option is to give up on Teaming and VLAN support for non-server versions of Windows. If finding the root cause of why the drivers break with every Windows 10 major update is not possible for the Ethernet Team's current resourcing levels, then explicitly stating so would prevent frustration with Intel's customer base. Other NIC vendors, including Realtek, struggle with this as well. If Microsoft is actively trying to force VLAN/Teaming customers to server SKUs with Switch Embedded Teaming, making it impossible to provide on standard Windows 10 versions, please just let us know.

They both want to discourage us from using W10 as a small business server. Don't you see it is done on purpose? I will never buy Windows server because I simply don't need it. Sooner or later there will be a Chinese/Asian competitor. On one hand they build factories outside USA to rip off the US tax system (to make it cost effective as they say), on the other hand they teach Asians how to design and produce processors. They feel confident now but it can change anytime.
