intel hd graphics 4000 Driver Update links to older installer

Okay, so to start with...I'm on an hp touchsmart running win 8.1 64 bit. intel hd 4000.

my display driver version is 10.18.10.3316, and the last update on the manufacturer's website was back in 2013. i've noticed plenty of graphics problems and I'm trying to update the drivers...

went here: http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/detect/graphics Intel® Driver Update Utility for graphics drivers

newer driver "15.33.22.64.3621", link leads me to an 'oh no' type page saying that it's been moved/archived.

So I search on the download center and find this one: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=23885&lang=eng&ProdId=3712 Intel® Download Center

says it's 15.33.22.64.3621 (Latest), but the installer says http://downloadcenter.intel.com/confirm.aspx?httpDown=http://downloadmirror.intel.com/23885/eng/Win64_153322.exe&Lang=eng&Dwnldid=23885 Win64_153322.exe. that reads to me as version 15 sub version 3322. what?

Given the headache GETTING the files, I expected some progress, but there was none. (I had a friend download from intel's site and upload to a fileshare since I got stuck on the 'accept/decline' terms page. it wouldn't go through when I hit accept.)

I tried this, and the zip file. executables on win8.1 are a no-go, but the zip file...when using device manager, it says the drivers are already up to date.

They're clearly NOT up to date, being stuck on a version released november 2013.

even device manager confirms it:

Driver Provider: Intel Corporation

Driver Date: 10/3/2013

Driver Version: 10.18.10.3316

Digital Signer: Microsoft Windows Hardware Compatibility Publisher

Where can I get this '15.33.22.64.3621' version, for real, instead of this useless stuff?

also, why do I get stuck on a dead end when trying to use live chat? it pretends the site it links to doesn't exist.

Hi Khe,

Let me help you with this.

It is important to say that your computer is an OEM system therefore it is necessary to install the drivers from the Computer Manufacture; however, we provide generic drivers that you can try.

Please follow the steps mentioned here:

/docs/DOC-22542 https://communities.intel.com/docs/DOC-22542

still not having any luck.

whenever I uninstall the drivers, it prompts to restart the system, and then it just re-installs them.

as before, the executable gives "Error: The driver being installed is not validated for this computer. Please obtain the appropriate driver from the computer's manufacturer. Setup will exit.", and it still refuses to install from the zipped driver files. when uninstalled, there's no install option for the device, and "add legacy device" doesn't work either.

this is extremely aggravating, considering the graphics issues I run across in so many games...

@ Crispen, Use Windows Device Manager to uninstall the graphics driver and be sure to check the "Delete the driver software for this device" box and then click OK. Once the driver has been removed you will be prompted to reboot. Then you will be able to install the generic Intel HD graphics driver.

Thanks

Robert

do you know where I would be able to find the original driver files on the hard disk? I want to back up them up before uninstalling them, to be on the safe side. sorry about the late responses, I'm trying to get caught up on other things at present.

Hi Khe,

Please try this new driver:

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=24245&lang=eng&ProdId=3720 https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=24245&lang=eng&ProdId=3720

You can use the method Robert_U mentioned to uninstall the driver. It is also important to say that is not necessary to back up the driver since it is downloadable from our website.

downloading it was a pain, but I figured out a workaround this time. had to open the 'accept/decline' page in a new IE tab to get the link the 'accept' button was linking to. really don't like that it won't download on clicking it...i'll see about installing when I get the chance later today. with luck, it works...

and...no dice. after uninstall, including deleting software checked, and a restart...it says "Microsoft Basic Display Adapter"

tried the software provided in the link, and this is what it said:

"The best driver software for your device is already installed"

"Windows has determined that the driver software for your device is up to date."

and under this, "Microsoft Display Adapter"

Worse yet, despite checking that box as suggested, it STILL reinstalled the old drivers automatically after the restart.

yup...still version 10.18.10.3316.

Am I out of luck here?

Actually the driver I provided above is for Haswell products.

@khe I would say that testing the drivers from the Computer Manufacture is the best option since are designed and created specifically for your computer.

I believe the reason why the latest driver which is only for haswell is because of OPEN GL4.3?will there be driver support for the ivy bridge products as the haswell is being supported?(i own an HD 4000 3770K)If yes,any idea when the hd 4000 would get its drivers released?i would appreciate if you'd please assist me with this question.

Regards,

Hary

It is important to say that HD 3000/ HD 4000 and Haswell are different platforms. We are constantly checking for improvements for our products and all feedback we get from the communities and other lines of support is very important for us.

At this point there is no ETA for a driver release but once it is online we will post it on the community.
