jtagd problems on new machine (Linux)

I've been running jtagd on several servers. However lately I sat up a new jtagd server and I can't connect to it. I observe the process with ps and I see "JTAG daemon started" at the end of /var/log/messages.

If I run jtagconfig on the server side it will list the conncted FPGA's Whenever I run jtagconfig on the client I get the message "Unable to connect". The password on the server side is correct according to /etc/jtagd/jtagd.conf.

If I remember correctly it should respond on port 1309:

--- Quote Start ---

netstat -l |grep 1309 tcp 0 0 *:1309 *:* LISTEN

--- Quote End ---

If I run netcat from a remote host to port 1309 I observe the header:

--- Quote Start ---

JTAG Server

--- Quote End ---

followed by some binary garbage, probably used by the jtagd protocol. So there is no firewall blocking the ports and the server is responding.

How I can I debug this issue? Are there any debug options to add to jtagd so I get more verbose output in /var/log/messages? Or debug options I can add to the client?
