Problem with i5 655k.

Hello,

I just made a new configuration for an HTPC about 1 week ago.

MB: Gigabyte H55N-USB3

CPU: Intel i5 655k

Mem: Corsair XMS3 8GB 1600

HDD: Seagate Momentus XT 500GB

BD: Panasonic UJ-240

PSU: Antec 150 Watt (Antec ISK-300)

I connected the htpc through onboard HDMI supported by clarkdale CPU to my tv which worked fine untill yesterday.

Everytime when I try to start the computer connecting through hdmi on the tv it gives no image.

When I connect it to my HD monitor through DVI it gives image.

When I have both HDMI and DVI connected, the DVI monitor starts flickering (no image just flickering) and the hdmi has no image at all.

As soon as I take out the hdmi and restart the pc the DVI works properly again.

My PS3 works fine with both audio and Video using the same HDMI cable and the same slot of the TV.

As the graphic's are coming from the CPU i'd figure the problem is with the CPU.

I tried reinstalling the intel HD video drivers but that doesnt seem to change anything. Please help !

Thanks in Advance!

Hi,

Based on the tests done so far, I'd recommend the following:

1. Test with 1.5v. memory. I checked on Corsair's website (click http://www.corsair.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=XMS3+8GB+1600 here) and notice all of the memory modules with the description you mentioned ("XMS3 8GB 1600") are 1.65v. I confirm the CPU itself is not tolerant to higher than 1.5v. "Intel recommends using memory that adheres to the Jedec memory specification for DDR3 memory which is 1.5 volts, plus or minus 5%. Anything over this voltage can either damage the processor or significantly reduce the processor life span." (qtd. in http://tinyurl.com/yfvduuk http://tinyurl.com/yfvduuk).

2. If the problem continues with 1.5v. memory, either test with another, compatible, testing processor or have your Intel(R) Core(TM) i5 Processor tried out on another compatible, testing desktop board.
