i5-2500k can't overclock and integrated graphics not working

Hi all,

I recently bought a new i5-2500k and installed it on my ASRock Z77 Extreme4 MB.

Unfortunately, the integrated graphics is not recognised (I made sure it is not disabled in BIOS, the settings for integrated graphics is not even displayed in BIOS) and i can't set the CPU multiplier above 37x i.e. cant overclock the cpu. I spent the last two days changing settings, flashing my MB Bios but nothing did help so far.

When I ran the Intel Processor Diagnostic Tool it says: "Did not detect Intel (R) Integrated Graphics Device"

Is there a way to test whether the CPU I bought is faulty i.e. not unlocked & integrated graphics not working?

Best regards,

Patrik

If the Intel® Processor Diagnostic Tool is telling you that the Intel® HD Graphics was not detected, it's because either the graphics portion was disabled within BIOS, the motherboard is having recognition issues (properly recognizing the processor) or you have a defective processor.

1- Make sure you have the latest BIOS of your board.

2- Make sure the processor is being properly recognized by the actual system. Feel free to run the Intel® Processor Identification Utility to see how the processor is recognized: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=7838 http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=7838

3- Test your processor on a different compatible motherboard and/or a different compatible processor on your board.

Hi Karla,

Thanks for your response.

1. I installed the latest BIOS and contacted the MB Manufacturer. They couldn't help me as of now and there are other people with the same MB CPU configuration without any problems.

2. The processor is recognized as a 2500k by all software I used so far. Even BIOS/UEFI identifies it as a 2500k but doesn't allow me to change oc/igpu relevant options (or doesn't even show them in the first place).

3. I do not have the opportunity to change either the motherboard or the cpu without buying a new one. Is there another way to find out whether it's the CPU or the MB which causes the problems? Seems like I'm stuck here since I can't RMA because I don't know which part causes the problem and RMA'ing the wrong part will most likely result in additional cost...

Did you have similar problems with faulty 2500k in the past? Is it possible that the CPU works just fine in benchmarks etc. but can't be overclocked and the integrated graphics is not working? Wouldn't a faulty CPU not work at all?

Is there local support in Switzerland too?

Best,

Patrik

I have had the identical issue with an i7-2600k. I RMA'd the mobo (ASUS P8z68-v pro/gen 3) and tried the processor on an Asus z77 Sabretooth. This time I didn't install the discrete graphics card, but plugged into the mobo (integrated). I did manage to have integrated graphics show up on initial post, but after adding my sata ssd it would no longer post.

With the original motherboard I ran Intel processor Diagnostic tool which PASSED the i7, but did not see any integrated graphics. CPUIZ showed the processor had only one core and one thread.

I have RMA'd the cpu.

Hello

I did have same problem. In my case, that was motherboard issue.

Extreme4-M

Issues:

1. No IGPU detection in bios and OS.

2. Cant overclock

3. Ram wrong detection (1333Mhz, should be 1600)

4. After shutdown, motherboard turning on without user interaction.

I tested motherboard with 2500k from my friend and issues was the same, my cpu works fine on his motherboard.

Hope that helps.
