S2600STBR in a Non Intel Chassis

Hello everyone,
This question is about installing an Intel S2600STBR board in a non Intel chassis. Will it work? The chassis in question does have redundant power supplies, but only 2 fans, which I believe are 120 mm. The motherboard has 2 CPUs and the heatsinks for the CPUs have fans on them. When performing the BIOS update, will it take into account this chassis and work properly?

Thank you
Ray

Hello RSump1,

Thank you for your inquiry regarding the compatibility of the Intel S2600STBR board with a non-Intel chassis, as well as the concern about performing a BIOS update.

Regarding the compatibility of the Intel S2600STBR board with a non-Intel chassis, I recommend referring to our "Chassis Compatibility List for Intel® Server Board S2600ST Family." This list includes third-party chassis that have been tested for compatibility with the Intel Server Board S2600ST Family: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000026937/server-products/server-boards.html. Chassis are tested to ensure they provide adequate airflow to meet manufacturer temperature specifications.

It's important to note that thermal testing is conducted on Intel Server Boards for all listed third-party reference chassis. However, the Intel Server Board is configured to use a generic fan control scheme during this testing. Results are not guaranteed if the fan control PWM rate is reduced or changed from the tested configuration. If you modify the PWM rate, you'll need to conduct thermal validation to ensure the system configurations meet the maximum thermal limits.

As for the BIOS update process, it's important to understand that the update itself is not chassis-specific. The BIOS update is designed to enhance overall functionality and performance of the motherboard. While the BIOS update doesn't directly consider your chassis configuration, maintaining proper thermal management within the chassis is crucial to prevent overheating and ensure optimal performance.

In summary, for compatibility with a non-Intel chassis, refer to the provided compatibility list. For BIOS updates, while the process itself isn't chassis-specific, proper thermal management remains vital. If you have any further questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to ask. We're here to assist you in ensuring a successful installation and optimal system performance.
