Hi Umike,
Thank you for the post. Is there any way you can provide me the physical serial number on the NIC? I need to identify the PBA number of the NIC, the complete serial # can be found on the adapter itself (NOT ON THE BOX), with the format of 15 alphanumeric (space) 6 alphanumeric (space) 6 alphanumeric - 3 digits.
thanks,

Hi
I discovered that it's Dell branded NIC and start using Dell Firmware update tool.
It's updated to 16.5.20 from Dell, next 17.0.0 and 17.0.5 got
Running validation...
This Update Package is not compatible with your system configuration.
and still have
ixl0: The driver for the device detected an older version of the NVM image than expected.
Please update the NVM image.
in BSD.
Card have next label:
3CFDFE0AA0E0
032 2315AD
H54188 - 005
no more labels with long text like serials
Can I reflash this NIC to native Intel Retail? As I see nvmupdate have "force" option.

Hi Umike,
This is not Intel version network adapter, as H54188 is not the PBA number for X710 of Intel retail adapter, pls refer to URL below
http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/network-and-i-o/ethernet-products/000005612.html
Have you tried contacting Dell* for the firmware reflash or roll back to their firmware ?

Hi Umike,
Just to double check also if you have tried the following: Upgrade first via previous NVMUpdate version which is downloadable at
https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25222/NVM-Update-Utility-for-Intel-Ethernet-Converged-Network-Adapter-XL710-X710-Series
Then proceed to upgrade to the newer NVMupdate version:
https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/24769/NVM-Update-Utility-for-Intel-Ethernet-Converged-Network-Adapter-XL710-X710-Series
Hope this helps.

I am not Umike, I was looking for the solution for the same problem and found this theme.
I added some technical details that I gathered from the system where this core dump is quite reproducible.
